Redskins Cut Former Steelers LB Gibson
Washington announced the release of LB Thaddeus Gibson in wake of the 6 p.m. ET deadline to slim rosters to 53.
San Francisco released Gibson earlier this preseason, and both Pittsburgh and Washington (and Chicago) put claims in for the former Steelers 4th round pick.
Would the Steelers be interested in picking Gibson up?
Pittsburgh waived Gibson in October in order to sign DL Steve McLendon from the practice squad. The Steelers had hopes to re-sign him. San Francisco claimed him, and kept him on their roster for the remainder of the 2010 season.
Teams will be monitoring the releases of other teams, looking to find other players who may fill a need. The Steelers are deliberating their final cuts, but it's possible they may think about bringing him on board, given their past interest in the second-year player from Ohio State.
Gibson is still eligible for the practice squad, given he hasn't been active for nine games, and with his release from Washington, any team - including Washington - can sign him to their practice squad.

We need an extra OLB with James Harrison's back
Either we need to carry 5 OLB on the roster or 2 on the PS and be ready to activate one on a week to week basis. Deebo’s back may not hold up for all 16 games + 3-4 post season games. (yes including the Super Bowl).

Interesting
Chris Carter or Thad Gibson?

Tough one I agree
The coaches have seen them both. I would assume Gibson is closer to NFL ready but then again Carter has been here all camp.

Week 2?
It was in November: http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2010/11/01/49ers-claim-thaddeus-gibson-off-waivers/
I feel like Gibson would have to put in time on special teams to be brought back on the 53, and that was apparently why we chose to release him when making room for McLendon – Gibson didn’t play special teams while Sylvester did.
I think
He can be signed directly to the practice squad. He was released outright in preseason, not waived from the practice squad. Practice squad rules do not yet apply Whether he would want, or our team would want, is a different matter.

Roster cuts
have to go through the waiver wire. Then he can sign to a PS essentially as a FA

I would expect Thad Gibson to be on the Steelers practice squad ...
if he wants to sign here. I think it would smart to have Carter and Gibson practicing and waiting in the wings if Deebo’s back doesn’t hold up. I’m sure Kevin Colbert and company are up on all of this. Ravens Week, BABY!
Ravens cut Mana Silva btw

and Reed got busted for Weed yesterday.....suspended 1 game.
He was only a back up WR, but I think he returns kicks
Refresh my memory on who Silva is John??
Rookie UDFA from Hawaii. Very poor man’s Troy Polamalu in that he is a playmaker and he tackles hard. A lot of people on here wanted us to draft him in the 7th.

What's taking so long to make the final cuts?
We only have 3 hours left

This could be one of the tougher final cut years......
Could it be the last hurrah for Hoke and robopunter??
Plenty of time
Maybe they just want to see who else gets cut, in case they want to cut to 52, and pick someone else up.
Hey, ya never know if Haloti Ngata will be released….(ahem)
I'm impatient
I’m in nursing a wicked hangover and watching college ball. Also, hitting refresh on twitter every 5 seconds. Haha

Gophers
It’s their only national game in the last, what, like, 15 years?
The University of Minnesota Golden Gophers are a huge reason why I don’t like college football.
What do the Gophers have to do with college football?

There's also the option of trading guys for draft choices...

I’d love to have him back given Harrison’s condition. But this is the 3rd time Gibson was cut, what gives?
