We had great coaching in 2010, but in 2011...
Came back again. I regret for the post I made about the Broncos and how we were underrating them, cos I think we lacked heart on that game. Heart wins game.
Anyways, I hated the coaching in 2011 for most part of the season. The decision of playing Ben against the 49ers until the last drive was the most stupid thing I ever saw, and maybe cost our wildcard win, we will never know.
But Tomlin and CO made some huge mistakes, like getting older on defense and dont have good backups, specially at LB. Our OL was ridiculous, and they insisted on J.Scott, Kemoeatu. They cant play at NFL.
They lack heart, determination. I played the OL position and can tell. Essex, Foster and j. Scott are lazy. Is not just technique, islazyness. About Kemoeatu, you cant play OL without a brain. Is possible to play OL without an arm, but not with a 50 IQ.
Also, we lacked experience on offense. We put our money on young receivers, overnight Ward became the 5th receiver. I think he could at least bring heat to this soft offense with those big hits. Our offense was so soft and inconsistent. An experienced and hardreceiver would be welcomed.
Well, I hope things start getting better in April.

Stupid and Lazy
I have NOT played the OL position. However, I have serious doubts that Essex, Foster and J. Scott are lazy and that Kemoeatu’s IQ is 50. I think you should give these guys a break. Nobody ever got anywhere near the NFL by being lazy and with an IQ of 50. You don’t know how many injuries these guys were playing with all season (esp. Kemo), and they are all playing like non-high draft picks (which is to be expected, since they are).

I have played the O-line
The offensive linemen are not lazy. You can easily see this in the way Johnathan Scott improved while playing for Starks last year and improved in my opinion when he went for Starks in the last game.
As fare as the IQ I do not agree on that. However their collective football IQ seems low. Part of this can be attributed to Kemo’s arthritic knees and reduced practice time from it. How ever football is not the same as most learn things, you can be incredibly intelligent and still have a poor football IQ.
However as is the case with some big men I do not know if they love football or are just playing it because they can get a play check. Those that love football will work hard in the NFL, self scout their own play from the prior season and work hard to get better in all aspects. Those that don’t will do just enough to keep them in the league.
I don’t know what is the case for these men but in the NFL you are constantly changing and are either getting better or worse the rate at which this occurs depends on you. For Kemo it seems to be the later but I couldn’t tell you the reason why with out a full look at what goes on.
Huge fan of the Steelers. (that includes "Steelers West")

Not Lazy
May be the injuries or age. They were good, but not this year. It is the coaches who has to take the blame for playing Ben through out the SFO Game and the last cleveland game where we were 90% sure that Ravens are not going to let up on Bengals.
Heart?
I don’t think injuries and illnesses constitute a lack of heart nor do I think laziness was an issue once training camp opened. Could some of the players prepared better than they did before the season? Undoubtedly. Was that a matter of laziness or just a lack of organizational skills on the parts of some players.
The only coach I can fault is BA and he is not a horrible coach. He just isn’t a very good coach and the Steelers need a better OC if this offence is going to achieve it’s full potential (that an a healthy, cohesive o-line).

This.
I thought this team played with incredible heart ALL YEAR. These guys played when most would have opted out. No heart…. please. I’m not about to listen to that bunch of crap.
HERE WE GO STEELERS!
"Our Father, who art in Pittsburgh, Football be thy game. Thy Kingdom come, thy will be done, at Heinz Field as it is in Heaven. Give us this day, a stellar D and forgive us our bogus fines, as we (sorta) forgive Goodell who trespasses against us. And lead us not into defeat, but deliver us a Victory. For thine is The Steelers, the power and glory of climbing the STAIRWAY TO 7."
So the same coaches we had in 2010...
…lost IQ points, became lazy, and just didn’t give a crap in 2011? Is that what you’re saying, cause it would stand to reason, given your
logic about the players, that the same malady hit the coaching staff as well.
Maybe the DBN’ers do have a point about bandwagoners; seems we’re hearing from a lot such fair weather fans here at BTSC since the Steelers’ early exit in the playoffs.

I agree these guys are not lazy
What they really are is not talented. I think JScott is probably the least talented OL man I have ever seen in my life, Essex is not talented and Kemo was just a brusier who wanted to brawl but not extremely talented. Look at them and look at Pouncey and Gilbert. I looked at a kid like Staley from the Niners on the weekend and you see he can sprint around the end and downfield 15 yards to make a block for the team. Our guys mentioned here can’t, they don’t have the wheels or quickness.
Disagree
I disagree on the great coaching in 2010. After all, Arians was forced to do things he does not like to do when Big Ben missed the first four games. Namely, run the ball more with a FB. BTW, a missed McFadden assignment away from 4-0 without Big Ben. In the Super Bowl, the off coverage against the Packers’ WRs. That was just dumb. As we saw last night and against the Chiefs, the Packers’ WRs are fast guys but not tough guys. Punch them at the line of scrimmage, delay them going on their patterns. It worked for us against New England so I know we got guys who can do it.
I am a big Mike Tomlin fan but this season was not the best coaching year for him. Last season, he did hold the team together but I also think it had a lot to do with the team believing and knowing they were more than just Big Ben. Last year, Big Ben was a part of the team, not the entire team. We need to get back to that type of philosophy in 2012.
