Broncos getting what they deserve.

I'm watching the Broncos literally implode at Foxboro. Tebow has reverted to his normal sucky, ineffective passing and Brady is doing surgery on the Broncos defense. At halftime, the Pats are romping by 35-7. Well, at least something still makes sense in the world of pro football. The Broncos will end their season at 9-9, which is about what they deserve. They were never a legitimate championship contender and how we ever let them beat us stands as one of the great mysteries of Steeler history.

The really bad news for Denver is that Brady, Belichick and Company are never satisfied to merely beat you. By the time this one is over, the Pats will rub Tebow's nose in this defeat and he'll need to pray that he can keep the starting QB job next season. You can't beat the top NFL teams in a playoff game by running option plays. Any guesses on the final score in this slaughter?

Yes, Tomlin it is

Tomlin should have got better OL after last year troubled run through Super Bowl. You will screw it up for 2 seasons ???. Pathetic. See how much time Brady gets to throw. He should have rested him at least for the Cleveland game. We could have beaten them with Batch

How

do you know he would have been healthy in Denver? He did enough to win the game. Mike Wallace and Jerricho Cotchery dropping passes was much more of an impediment to the offense in that game than Roethlisberger’s health, IMO.

Man, I keep hearing about Cotchery's drop

How many drops was it again? He missed a ball, definitely wasn’t his signature over the course of the season. Although I was disappointed with the drop as well, a lot of the balls Ben threw were off target and all receivers drop occasionally, if I was going to point the drop finger, it would be at Wallace, he dropped a lot of key balls or didn’t make effort on balls that were catchable.

I was just referring to his singular drop on the 3rd down that would have kept the drive alive early in the game. His touchdown reception had a very high degree of difficulty. In general, I think he has really good hands.

Also, tonight’s game makes me feel less bad about losing last week. The Pats were going to come out like gangbusters this week after their past two playoff flameouts, and I don’y think we could have beaten them with all of our injuries. That being said, I doubt we’d be losing this badly.

Yep, knew it

Hate to keep killing this horse but once again, I place all the blame of 2011 Steelers’ season on Big Ben’s ego, Mike Tomlin’s lack of control, and Bruce Arians’s ineptitude. Sure the defense deserves some blame too but the offense only mustered 2 FGs at halftime last week.

How in the world is New England taking Denver to the woodshed like this? I like to think the Steelers’ skill position players are on par with New England. Arians must go and Big Ben needs to realize he is a part of the team, not the entire team.

Tomlin was afraid of alienating Ben and he couldn't stand up to him and take him out of the San Francisco game...

That to me is not a coach! If he would have, then I believe that we would be playing in this game tonight. We are a better over all team than New England is and deserved to be in the Championship game. Tomlin says we don’t live in the past but he also seems like he doesn’t learn from his mistakes either.

this revisionist history like Tomlin had a Cyrstal ball and knew how the season was going to go is comical. The SF game you had a shot at the 2 seed and getting the priveledge to beat the Texans at home and go on to the championship game. You take that shot. You play to win.

Sorry, it wasn't stupid to suggest that Ben should have been removed from the San Fran game. He looked like a stiff robot out there.

You use the players that give you the best chance to win and everyone (announcers, people at the bar with me, etc.) wanted to know why Tomlin didn’t sit Ben down. Too bad that people that have different opinions than you are stupid. This was neither revisionist or hind sight; it was as the game happened. I am of the opinion that Charlie Batch gave us the better option that particular day and the Cleveland game also.

No need to get offended, I’m pretty sure he’s just making a general statement to me.
I think you’re absolutely wrong about what you’re saying, but I wouldn’t say stupid.
Tomlin didn’t sit Ben because Ben said he can go, and even in his condition, he was still the best hope for a win. Charlie would have taken his third trip to IR in the last five years, or whatever.
If dumbass David hadn’t f’ed up that pass play, and if Wallace could fight for the ball, the game would have been different.

Once again, how the hell did we lose to Denver??

I don’t care if the Steelers were the walking wounded. There was no excuse to lose that game. Coach Tomlin has no control over Roethlisberger. He talks a good game but he can’t manage the clock or the team. Pretty sad.

I am angrier now than I was last week. I hope Art Rooney II is watching the debacle in Foxboro and makes sure Arians does not come back. 2 FGs in one half against that sorry defense? How in the world did the Steelers only score two TDs on that sorry defense? Pitiful.

Homerism rears its ugly head...

We are a better over all team than New England is and deserved to be in the Championship game

I’ll use the most obvious stat: We lost to Denver, Patriots defeated Denver. Any other stats or facts would simply be redundant.

But, simply for goodwill, one final stat: Steelers 12-4, Patriots 13-3.

Nothing gives more ammunition to the Trolls, the Haters, and any passing-by football fan of another team to demean and think ill of Steeler Nation,

than for someone to post that we deserved anything. The Steelers went as far as they could, and no farther. Its really that simple.

I meant that if we didn't have to deal with all of the injuries on both sides of the ball and the fact that our

defense is #1 overall, that we are the better team and we proved it in the 8th game of the season. But maybe the word deserved is incorrect. Yeah yeah the standard is the standard, but there comes a point where third string players aren’t going to cut it going up against first string players.

For Starters

New England didn’t sell out to stop the run at all costs. They were willing to give up some running plays and not get beat deep. I have no idea where the hell LeBeau and Co. devised the gameplan for last week, but not only was it a colossal failure, it pretty much went against everything Pittsburgh’s defense has stood for since Mike Tomlin has been the head coach. Namely: do not give up big plays, bend but don’t break, hold the opposition to field goals. 4 pass plays over 40 yards…in 1 game…to the worst passing QB I have ever seen…what a terrible gameplan. I’m obviously still not able to move on from that damn game.

glass slippers and jaws

While it was somewhat satisfying to see Tebow’s size 14 pyrex shoe come crashing to earth and shatter into shards, I couldn’t help feel a little embarrassed by the bottom defense in the league turning the Broncos into Bronco patoots ( or pate for the matter) while the top rated defense made Tim Tebow look like Tom Brady after making Tom Brady look like Brady Quinn. What’s wrong with this picture? Is this the end of football as we know it?

Gameplanning

Trumps personnel, obviously.

I’d add a Polamalu to our secondary in a heartbeat. But, BB had his guys in positions to succeed all game. They played with energy, passion, and were greater than the sum of their parts.

Sadly, i must agree about BB. Somehow Butt toucher wasn’t even a liability, and he’s a QB that turned in to a receiver, that turned in to a DB, then back to a receiver…

I going to say it an going to be disliked for it but...

Last Week LeBeau screwed up…

Tim Tebow was an inaccurate awful QB (yeah I said it and I can back it up too), Dick LeBeau’s defensive philosophy of giving up nothing big was perfect for Tebow. Play 5-7yards off the ball and force Tebow to consistently hit the pass while moving methodically down field. I guarantee he won’t sustain a drive like that. Blitz and stunt up the middle. Force Tebow to find the hole in the zone and make a play. Instead he gave Tebow easy reads by playing man, he didn’t respect the WR of Denver and blitz all out a couple of times. The DB for the Steelers aside from Ike are not capable of playing man at a high level. I know the lack of rotation on the DL must have hurt but going in to that game I though LeBeau regular game plan was perfect against Tebow.

That being said those of you saying LeBeau should be fired are ridiculous. He is human he can be fooled and out coached however the great thing about LeBeau is that he is rarely fool by the same thing twice. I think the Broncos game really bothered him and he is going to be doing a lot of self scouting of his defense and comeback with some new things like next year. I can’t wait.

Actually we just got Bradyed or Bellichecked

either way we were absolutely owned last night and I don’t think it would have mattered who the Patriots played last night. Result probably would have been the same. They were on a mission and nothing or nobody was going to stand in their way. Congrats to them.

I understand the bitterness I am reading here, last weeks loss would be a tough one to take. At one time, the Steelers were my favorite team of all (back when they were routinely beating America’s Team in the SB), then we moved to Colorado from upstate NY and we traded for Elway, the rest is history.

Steelers will be back next year, hopefully the Broncos will be even better and we can have another epic game between us. You have to admit, despite the outcome, that it was an exciting game.

Not all are bitter, and some of us hoped for Tebow to have a good game to “lessen the sting” of the loss. Alas, it wasn’t to be. Good luck next year!

I wanted the Broncos to win

Love to see the patriots lose it fall third on my list right behind the Ravens losing and of course the number one the Steelers winning.

im not so much bitter about the game

i just REALLY dont like the media love affair with tebow, and i will admit getting a bit of enjoyment out of watching him fail, if only because it shuts people up. i do actually like your team though.

by hasay on Jan 15, 2012 6:58 PM EST up reply actions

I agree, the media has lost perspective.

But it is all about ratings. Talking about him, whether you love him, hate him, or are indifferent creates visits to a papers article, a webpage, or TV/Radio show. I love Tebow, but I started turning channel whenever they started going crazy with Tebow coverage. It was too much for me.

I appreciate is standing up and defending Tebow,

but he does go overboard and ignores some inconvenient truths. And his ridiculous rants about how Elway is going to trade him. Maybe he will, I don’t know. If he wants too, he isn’t going to say so, that would kill trade value. What I do know is that he has vowed to work with him this offseason to help him become a better QB. Either way, only time will tell what the truth is. Not a fan of Stephen A Smith either. Needless to say, I no longer watch that show.

Not all of us are bitter

Just some people on here are salty because they ended up looking like idiots when we lost. I said that we would beat you guys, and have already eaten a big plate of crow because of it. I’m not going to say anything bad about you guys at all because you beat us fair and square.

Regardless of where the Steelers are at and all of that

I just want to take a minute to enjoy watching someone get TOTALLY EMBARRASSED when that person just embarrassed my team the week before. We beat the pats this year so my hatred for them is at a low ebb. So HAHAHA YEAH! I love it! Go back to the mountains you bums.

The Steelers will be back next year and they will make tebow pay, but for now, let’s just enjoy his suffering.

I can see all the talking heads cancelling their after-work plans this week as they thought they might have it easy just throwing more tebow garbage against the wall for us. Now they have to work!

Oh Puhleeze

They beat us fair and square last week and they made it to the 2nd round of the playoffs. I’m not sure what they “deserve” but I give them the respect they deserve for making it as far as they did…. which was further than we got this year.

One of the great disappointments of a football game is that the cheerleaders never seem to get injured.

They are entitled to play their best and beat anyone. They did just that. We lost because we deserved to lose

I choose to be more positive: We lost because we didn’t take the opportunities that were presented for us to win. (Yeah, I know, but it makes me feel better about the whole stinkin thing)

Trust me, I am one of the biggest optimists out there

My optimism has shifted from playoffs to draft day and next season now. I give the Broncos their due, always try to be gracious in defeat rather than taking anything away from the victors

They beat us...

…because we played like crap. If we play well, we win. We didn’t and we lost. End of story, no sour grapes, no griping, no excuses.

Our entire DL was hurt. That forced us to creep up the safeties and Tebow took advantage of that. That’s what he is supposed to do and we laid an egg.
