I was watching the game last evening...
WITH MY HUBBY and he said something that describes the whole 2011 steeler season in a nutshell..When the Pats have the ball in the red zone…TD, when we have the ball there, FG…that about sums it up!

TOTALLY AGREE, we had a quite bad team in reality, this team would have gone 6-10 or 7-9 at best had this team played the 2008 schedule!!!
This is no longer an elite team, we need major upgrades in many areas (including Coaching staff) to be competitive going forward, Looking at the 2012 schedule I could see a losing season as likely.
It is a SHAME as Ben may only have a few more precious years left. Had he the talent (AND COACHING) of New England I could see a couple more SB runs for him; but not as it stans now. I only hope it is not another 25 years (as it was from 1980-2005), with many mediocre QBs and teams, till Pitt gets #7!!!!

The bottom line is that the Steelers will finally get a decent amount of rest.
Losing a Superbowl sucks ass and wastes tons of time. Now our players can get a real rest and with a normal offseason I expect the D to look more like 2010 and less like early 2011. Who knows, maybe we can even get one more year out of Aaron Smith. Harrison and Woodley should be back at 100% and that will be huge for the pressure and turnovers.
Or maybe the Steelers really are on the decline, but I doubt that.

Rest?
They had plenty of rest over the off season….it was substantially extended due to the lockout and CBA discussions, plus….because of CBA agreements, now during the season, full pad practices are only once a week.
Aaron Smith is done.
Harrison’s bad back is chronic, I love the guy but I doubt his 100% will ever be as good as it once was.

Not saying there isn't room for improvement, but...
…how is it that the despite the magnitude of disparity between coaching as you describe it, we won it all in 2008, almost won it all in 2010, and were in the playoffs again in 2011? Was it all luck?
There may indeed be a large degree of “well it worked before, maybe it will work again” in the coaching philosophy, but I wouldn’t paint it in such dire terms. When things work well, there is a hesitancy to tinker; now that we’ve obviously reached a transition point with a large number of veterans, let’s give HC Tomlin a chance to show what he can do when its obvious changes need to be made, before we start condemning him to the hells of mediocrity (a/k/a Cleveland).

Agree.....with half
I had no problem with the defense this year, number 1 against the pass, number 1 pts against, in a passing league to have not allowed a 300 yard passer or 100 yard receiver until their final game is remarkable to me and any changes would be a big mistake philosophy wise. You can always upgrade the talent but wouldn’t change the way they play. Where I disagree is on offense, while you used the word luck, I would use spite as in the offense performs in spite of the playcalling and coaching. Arians is terrible, I could write a book on what is all wrong with him but it comes down to one thing points. I could care less if we ran the same play over and over again if we scored points but 22nd in the league with the talent level we have is ridiculous. No imagination, the same 10 plays called over again, predictability, never do anything to keep defenses guesing or off-balance. Every time they line up you know what play is coming and it still wouldn’t matter if they actually scored, but they have had that problem on offense the whole time under Arians. If our D was out of the top 10 or god forbid top 20 in pts, we would be rioting in the streets and with offenses setting scoring and passing records, to be 22nd is embarrassing.

#1 against the pass is misleading
I wouldn’t hang my hat on our #1 Pass defense, it’s a misleading stat considering the bulk of non-quality QB / passing teams we faced in 2011 (most of the QBs we beat struggle to crack an 80 QB rating)
We beat:
Tavaris Jackson (QB rating 79.2)
Kerry Collins (washed up)
Matt Hasselbeck (QB rating 82.4)
Blain Gabbert (worst passer rating in the NFL)
Kevin Kolb (272yds 2 tds 1 int)
Tom Brady (198yds 2 TDS)
Andy Dalton x2 (rookie QB rating 80.4)
Tyler Palko (Arena league caliber QB)
Colt McCoy (QB rating 74.6)
Kellen Clemens (who?)
Seneca Wallace (Yep)

you can only play who's on your schedule
I agree, that is a pretty lame list of qb’s besides Brady, but the D did what they were supposed to do and with huge list of injuries added, the D is the last place I would mess with things. Can they improve sure, but it still would be improving statistically the best D in the league. The offense is horrendous and puts added amount of stress on the D by not moving the chains and by not scoring. I think the D would play for more turnovers and scheme a little different if they didn’t think they had to shutout everyone just to have a shot to win.

Blitzburgh of 2008, now that was a defense

great point
Healty or not, if they continue to struggle next year NOT getting to the QB (Sacks, pressure), and turnovers, its going to be a long year.
Situational Offense football and Great defense
in 2008 we had one of the best defenses ever to suit up. If you recall our defesne had to save our tails on severla occassions in 2008 and Ben had to pull miracles out of his tail. Last year we also played stellar defense and we lost the SB because we turned the ball over 4 times and decide to rol our kicker out for a long FG. These past few years our coaching staff has no clue to situational football. I diasgree big time.
offense
Yes my pt exactly, maybe I was too hard on the D scheme though look what Teblow did to it; but the Offense!!! How can this O rank near the league bottom in scoring with these names: Ben, Heath, Mendy, AB, Ward, Wallace, Redman??? Come the H—- on!!!! There is obviously something wrong here that needs rectified; perhaps the O Line is half of that, so FIX the damn thing!!! I think the scheme and BA are the other half. IF THEY HAD A BETTER LINE AND SCHEME/PLAY CALLING THEY WOULD BE TOP 5 IN SCORING AND THE D WOULD LOOK BETTER THAN IT MAY BE JUST LIKE NE, GB!!!
NE
HOW MUCH LONGER must we endure the NE/Brady juggernaut?? It may go away a while but ALWAYS seems to come back, I would think they well get another SB this year, will they ever go away???
My point, look how good they are esp offensively year in/out, all different players and such since 10 years ago, but look how they score?? Imagine if Brady had Mendy, AB, Wallace too?? Why cannot we be like that??
OK I'll imagine it for you
Mendy scored 9 TDs this season
Brady has BenJarvus Green-Ellis and he scored 11 TDs
AB and Wallace combined scored 10 TDs
Brady has Welker and Rob Gronkowski they scored 26 TDs combined!
So I “imagine” if Brady had Mendy, AB and Wallace they wouldn’t be as good at scoring POINTS because while each of those Steeler players have value, none are consistent REDZONE threats.
Coaching
Been saying all year we are not well coached. Offense is weak. Clock mgt terrible. How many times do we come out of a time out or other
Clock stoppage and get a delay of game? Too often
I watched Brady with a minute left in half complete a 20 yard pass. They got down and ran a play in 15 seconds. Think we can do that?
I don’t think Tomlin is a good coach. He is a good leader but don’t see him as agood coach
Don’t tell me “he won a super bowl”. Barry Switzer won a super bowl
disagree
1. It is easier to rush the passer when the opposition is using a silent count.
2. Just like Seatle playing at home last year. The better team lost to a home defense and an athlete going beast mode(lynch, demarius)
3.came back to tie it in the fourth.
4.steelers beat the pats this year
5. Steelers. Didn’t have an oline.
6. HEALTH

Read an article this year that said that Brady didnt beat anyone in 2011 with a winning record. One team finished up at 8-8.
Who's laughing now, O Line??? Ben Roethlisberger (from the Podium) to his O-Line and the world in Superbowl XLIII
Let me put and end to this now
Nation-
Mike T, Bruce and Ben (other than two drives, SB 43 and the drive to win the division at Baltimore in 2009 have no case if Dick L’s defense is not so dominant. They have ben the X factor in covering up for this lame offensive approach. Concerend we have so much talent now but will not capitalize because of the splash play throw to Ohio approach.
