My Mock Draft v.3.0
Here we go the East West Shrine Game was last weekend the Senior Bowl is this weekend and here is my Seven Round Mock draft for the Steelers.
Dontari Poe, DT Memphis-
Poe is a massive guy at 6'5" 350lbs, however he has an athletic appearance and could even put on more weight if needed. He was considered one of the strongest players in the NCAA and his strength and conditioning coach says he can still easily get stronger. All reports are that he is a hungry guy with a good work ethic. Hampton injury is going to limit his play in the early season. Hoke just retired so the Steelers will need a NT to play with Steve McLendon. Poe is the best NT prospect and I would take him even though he is incredibly raw.
Round 2, Pick #56-
Kevin Zeilter OG Wisconsin-
This is a blue collar guy. He has a great motor, is good on the pull and can anchor well. He struggles in space against speed but Zeilter stock is rising fast. He is Mike Mayock's second rated guard. He is also my favorite gaurd prospect outside of DeCastro.
Round 3, Pick #88-
Nigel Bradham, OLB Florida State-
Stop me if you have heard this before, a 6'1" or 6'2" 238lbs OLB prospect out of FSU. He runs a 4.67 40 yard dash, he is fast and loves to hit. Nigel Bradham reminds me of Lawrence Timmons. He doesn't have the pass rush ability tio play OLB but he has experience at playing in the middle. He instincts are in question but he is fast and can handle contact. I think this could be a sleeper as a 3-4 ILB. At least a very, very good special teams player.
Round 4, Pick # 120-
Brandon Brooks, OG Miami (Ohio)-
I watch the East-West Shrine game and this guy really stood out. He is 6'5" 350lbs but isn't a sloppy 350lbs. He is quick for that size and has good ability in both the run and pass. He plays high at times but really looked good at the Shrine game. Could be a future starter.
Round 5, Pick #152-
B.J. Coleman, QB University of Tennessee Chattanooga-
Another guy who impress at the East-West Shrine Game. Has has a good arm and made some really nice throws. He definitely can be a very good back up in the league and could have starting potential. Throws a nice ball. 6'3" 234lbs also mean he can take a hit. Kinda of reminiscent of John Skelton in the East-West Shrine game a coupe of years ago.
Round 6, Pick # 184-
Dominque Hamilton, DT Missouri-
Hamilton has a good get off and is ideal size for a 3-4 DE. He is 6'5" 300lbs and can put on more weight if needed. Can be a very solid guy in the rotation. Another guy who had a good game at the East-West Shrine game.
Round 7, Pick #216-
Carson Wiggs, K Purdue-
He is a little inconsistent but he has a leg. His career log was 59 yards. He was 2-3 from 50+. Can be a guy the Steelers can trust in long FG situation.

Hmmm. Let me put this in street terms....
I fucks with this draft.

Certainly could live with the first two picks-
We’ll see how the big board shapes up the rest of the way…
first two pics very good
hard to say rest of way. If Bradham can converts into a productive inside linebacker, like Timmons did, you found a sleeper. Dont mind the rest other than QB, dont think we need QB in this years draft. Might go with another ILB, O or D line at #4. Again, hard to say who will be there and who is on the board.
1000 pounds in the first three rounds
That is my mantra…

id rather not take 2 OL in the first 4
though i guess it makes sense for now… give me a 3rd down RB in the 4th instead and this is perfect in my opinion

I think we’re pretty well stocked with RBs: Mendenhall (if he returns), Redman (really impressed), Clay (huge and room for improvement), Dwyer (surprising quickness for a big dude, but needs to stay in shape), and Baron Batch (little small, but blocks well, hits the hole hard, and is still an unkown commodity in steeltown)…I think unless a guy like Chris Rainey falls to us in the later rounds, we should leave RB alone
Don't be surprised if they pick an LB in the first round

I truly think #1 is going to be a linebacker

If we got Dontari Poe
I would do cartwheels. If he got Vontaze Burfict though, cartwheels through flaming hoops of awesome

"flaming hoops of awesome"
Will you post it on Youtube?

Nigel Bradham
As a Noles and Steelers fan, I would love to have Bradham on Pitt. You are correct on his instincts and he plays very stiff at times (partly because he was taught by Chuck “the chest” Amato late in his career in the end of the good ol boys reign), but there is no doubt that he can run. I don’t like the comparison with Timmons because I believe he [Timmons] at the time was very raw and potential was very, very high. But Bradham and Timmons in the middle would be very appealing, I would like to see him get a few reps on the outside to see what he can do with his speed even though his stiffness would hurt him just to see how much the coaches can try to correct along with his athleticism and versatility he could possess…

with that said if Hightower or Burfict fall, I wouldn’t mind picking them
On the comparison to Timmons
I meant physically. Was not comparing their playing style or potential.

Case Keenum will not go in the 7th. He has good arm strength, is mature and accurate. He only knock is age I think he goes in the second or third at latest.

Wrong Guy
Keenum has average arm strength but call his own plays in college. He is a west coast QB who will probably go in the 5th or 6th if not early 7th. I got him mixed up with Brandon Weeden out of OKST. Keenum doesn’t fit our style anyway.

Liking it except for your 3rd and 7th
Keenum won’t be there.
Impose your will.
Just don't see them putting first round money in d-line
That would be 3 years running.
Impose your will.
Its three years in a row that a good prospect is available
After this year if we draft a stud NT, we could be set for the next 10 years

True
But I don’t know if they want to tie up that much salary in the front 3, that’s my biggest concern.
We need to be able to resign all of them. Perhaps ziggy would be the one to walk. I haven’t been wowed by him on a consistent basis.
Impose your will.
They wont all be massive paycheck guys, 3-4 Lineman just arent paid like that. In fact all three of our current guys (meaning Smith, Hampton and Keisel) were all relatively cheap for the majority of their careers

Interesting
Poe may be the ravens cure!
Impose your will.
I would love a Guard to be honest
I like Ta’amu in the 2nd if he falls. I would love Burfict in their somewhere too, although that wont sit well with some

Poe telling a Raven, "Never More"...
…has almost too much literary irony to happen, but it would be fun!
