What's up my brothers in black and gold!!!

Huge Mountaineer (and Bronco) fan here.... I hail from Huntington WV (home of the Marshall Thundering Herd) so I know the Steelers like the back of my hand. I've been having some GREAT discussions with some of the members here (namely Steeler Fever ~ FrankWyt ~ John Stephens), so I figured I'd drop by and give you all a shout out!!! I've been throwing around the word "thug" too loosely when describing the Steelers.... and to me it meant something good (I'd love for my D to have a thuggish mentality - they're getting there slowly but surely).... but I have since learned that's not an accurate word to describe your beloved team.... bully is more like it. The Rooney's and the Steelers are as classy of an act as it comes, so just because a team intimidates everyone, DOES NOT make them a thug (like some of my former players - Brandon Marshall to name one).

I have nothing but respect for Dick LeBeau, Troy Polamalu, and Big Ben (who I believe Tim Tebow will become like with some more reps). May the best team win Sunday - which to the eye right now seems like you all, HANDS DOWN, but any given Sunday my friends.

What do you guys think will be the deciding factor for a Steelers victory Sunday? Can Tim Tebow and my offense rebound against the scariest D in football (sorry Ravens fans)? Anyways.... I've really, really enjoyed talking with you guys over at Mile High Pride, and I have to say it was my favorite discussion board so far with another team's fan base. Good luck people!!! I hope the altitude helps us gas your team.... we're gonna need all the help we can get.

P.S. There's been some discussion on my site that Troy Polamalu (the Mauri Warrior God of Battle) is overrated.... for the record, they're just hating. If he joined the Broncos tomorrow (I wish), every Denver fan in the world would recognize him as a top 3 Safety in football.

Welcome Pale Horse

I think the key for us is Normalcy. We have so many injuries and roster changes right now, that we just need everyone to do their parts and things should come together nicely. If that is too much to ask, it will be an uphill battle. We are starting our #2 Back and 2 practice squad backs against you guys and our RB coach was injured in a house fire this morning and will not be healthy enough to travel with the team, hopefully nerves are not a factor for those guys; our RB’s seem to be snake-bit at the moment.

This...

…MDSTEELERSFAN is right. We need some normalcy. We played quite well when our OL had the same guys in the same spot more than 1 game in a row.

I don’t see much of a drop off with our RBs (Coach Kirby’s injuries notwithstanding), But it will be the OL and Ben’s ability to move that will determine how well we do. Unless of course, our D pitches its third shutout of the season!

Given our injuries at RB and OL, Ben’s busted wheel, and our recent struggles to score points (42 total points vs. Clev, Clev, KC, SF in last 6 weeks) the Broncos have an unfortunately realistic shot at this game. If the Steelers fail to muster more than 13 pts. as was the case in the four games I just cited this game could easily go the Broncos way on some fluke play, a speceial teams or defensive TD, ect…

As a Bronco fan, I don’t think Troy Polamalu is overrated. I know I was hoping he’d fall to Denver in that 2003 draft… We had him targeted at 20. But nope… you jerks took him and we ended up with George Foster… Yeah, I’ve never heard of him either and he was our 1st round pick. The 2003 draft was Denver’s worst ever and it started with you guys taking Troy… So thanks for ruining that for us.

Do you guys give up many long passing plays (thru the air, not run after catch?) Do you guys give up many yards after catch? I would like to see D Thomas at his size and speed running thru your secondary, but I’m not sure you guys allowed much of that in 2011 (or most other seasons for that matter).

Which backups are you most concerned with? The replacement for Clark? Pouncey? or Mendenhal?

Do you guys have a speed back? Those speed backs guys have been killing us this season. We’ve done very well stopping the bigger north-south runners, but the home run hitter types have hit their fair share of big plays on us. TEs have also done a lot of damage on us. We’ve done well stopping the deep threat types, but the TEs on our MLB… Not so much.

Tim Tebow is Denver's 2012 starting QB. I'm not even kind of sorry that offends some of you (including you Elway).

Neither, Pouncey’s backup is the starting LG. The LG backup is either a penalty ridden blown assignment machine or a horrible player in general. I worried about Kemo or Essex playing. I have to take Kemo though so at least we can run the ball to the right a hundred times.

Huge fan of the Steelers. (that includes "Steelers West")

LOLOL!!!!

George Foster was the pick, and dudes like Herana-Daze Jones (pronounced Hernandez Jones… don’t ask me, that’s on his momma), Marlon McCree, Marquand Manuel, another bum, and another, and another, have manned our Safety positions ever since John Lynch retired. I love B Dawk to death, but help is needed NOW!!!

I don’t know the exact stats on this, but during the Browns game I heard some type of ridiculous stat like they’d only given up 4 20+ yard passing plays on the year. Someone like John Stephens would probably know more, I’m just going off what I (sorta) remember from the announcers

Whats even crazier is last year

they gave up 2

in 2008 they only gave up 1 during the regular season

Dick defense is based on making the quarterback making short to medium accurate throws to matriculate the ball down the field which is why the defense only has trouble with the elite QBs because they are the only ones that can do this. The defense takes away the deep ball and if you do try to go for it nine times out of ten you will get sacked.

Tebow is the type of QB this defense thrives on, if he is taking over 3 seconds before he decides where to go with the ball harrison and woodley will be happy to make the decision for him.

I love the Steelers.

I guess you could say it's more biblical

but really, I just thought it was a badass sounding name. It just so happens that our mascot is a white (pale) horse, so add in death from the bible, riding on a pale horse and I believe I had a winner.

Respect, Pale Horse

There’s nothing better than talking football with a knowledgeable compadre, even if he is from the other side. I remember having some great conversations in California with a bartender who was a Ravens fanatic. He hated the Steelers, but he had respect, and we had some great discussions about the strengths and weaknesses of our teams. Your Broncos have been a great story this year, and although I think the Steelers should win the game, I am not taking it for granted. Enjoy the game.

Gotta love Broncos fans

And I’m sincere when I say that. I browse other sites on SBnation and have found that when it comes to the Steelers, most fanbases have nothing but negative things to say about the Steelers and we their fans. Bronco fans always seem to be on the same page as us, and the vast majority I’ve encountered are respectful and extremely knowledgeable. Maybe it’s the the physical histories both franchises share but there’s much mutual respect between our fanbases. I look forward to Sunday’s game.

by Tim Mullhaupt (HSS) on Jan 6, 2012 8:09 PM EST reply actions

I can see that Tim

the only bad thing these days about Bronco fans, is their whining, impatience and disdain for their own team. I try to explain to them how the Steelers operated with a young Big Ben (Tim Tebow is the same I believe). There were no 450 yard passing games in Blitzburgh there at the beginning…. Big Ben had to learn how to throw year by year.

As far as respect for the Steelers….. I am a huge fan of big, tough QB’s who are hard to bring down (Big Ben)….. dominant defensive play….. and a stout ground attack. The Steelers are the embodiment of all these things.

The ONLY thing I hate about the Steelers, isn’t the team’s fault at all – but I hate all the bandwagon Steeler fans in my area who don’t even know 1 quarter the knowledge of their team as I do (a Bronco fan). Good luck to you fellas Sunday.

Deciding factor

I believe that the injuries that we have on both teams, and how their backups play, really won’t be much of a determining factor of who will win the game. The thin air at mile high seemed to be a bit of a concern for our RB rotation, as our #1 went to IR a few days ago. But with our offense, we may not run much anyway.

This one could easily come down to, which QB turns the ball over the least.

3 thoughts for Pale Horse...

1) welcome; and a “shout out” for venturing onto the most scary enemy territory
2) as to Troy being over-rated: as a serious fan, I can recognize this being very easy for the common fan to think. The way he plays (which is by design) has him sometimes looking completely out of a play (even foolish at times). But only a Lebeau aficianado would understand that he’s playing within the scheme, and the overall impact on a game reaps huge dividends.
3) Tebow: I truly & respectfully do not envy you here. A QB’s ability to accurately throw a football can be covered up by a strong D and good running game for only so long. He seems like a great guy who has the heart of a lion, but in the big boy’s league he just won’t succeed, sorry.

Maybe not right now

but I believe he has the drive, work ethic and passion to improve in the passing game. Coming from a guy who watches Bronco games WAY too closely… most of the problems in the passing game right now are coming from the receivers.

Both of my starters are 2nd year pros – one of which (Demaryius Thomas) has missed a helluva lot of time due to various injuries. We have some intriguing, young TE options on the bench, but they were basically redshirted this year due to Julius Thomas being a hoops star all but his senior year of college (hopefully he’ll be half as good as Gates, Tony G, and Jimmy Graham).

Big Ben didn’t look like Joe Montana his first couple years either, and I think Tebow is VERY comparable to Ben in many ways (Tim is a much better runner ~ Ben… better mechanics / accuracy, however, he’s played a lot longer).

On to Troy – Troy Polamalu is an enforcer and his job within the scheme is to gamble a lot, disguise himself a lot, and confuse / frighten the hell out of the opposition.
