The Biggest Villain is IKE

Though I was close to say Mike Wallace. But Ike was really bad and when Ryan Clark was not on the top. He should have brought his A game.

Kiesel, Hampton, Clark - Huge loss for this game.... What happened in the 2nd quarter was unpardonale. We lost the game right there, not at OT. Though Ben brought us back. But the play call in the last posession was really bad though the clock was against us. Losing yardage is bad. The Defense bails us out and they have failed miserably. Lot of upgrades are needed. Where was Woodley and Harrison ?.

GO TEXANS .... Atlease beat baltimore ;-(

probably Ike's worst game as a pro

at least i can’t think of a time when he played worse

by theatrain on Jan 8, 2012 8:24 PM EST reply actions

He was burned at least 3 times

All for more than 20+ Yards. At times he was looking like the best Bronco in the field. Gay was also beaten in the touch down allowing the receiver behind him. Secondary needs improvement

by Mani_subs on Jan 8, 2012 8:29 PM EST reply actions

not ikes fault

how can you expect to cover a teams only good reciever one on one with no safety help for the whole game?

by hasay on Jan 8, 2012 8:30 PM EST reply actions

if something repeatedly fails, you adjust your scheme accordingly

and watching the last play, i can say lebeau didnt even try

by hasay on Jan 8, 2012 8:36 PM EST up reply actions

How the heck that happened

Adjusted at half time and Tebow was on empty set, shot gun and there is no safety on top. They literally blew that and never expected him to throw. Ike was stiff armed in that play. Bad Bad and i still cannot overcome that. Ben almost pulled it off. The defense helped the whole year and they blew it again in a playoff game. Some how it reminded me of the Garrard’s run on 4th down in 2007

by Mani_subs on Jan 8, 2012 8:40 PM EST up reply actions

this has truth to it

the whole secondary was terrible

by theatrain on Jan 8, 2012 8:34 PM EST up reply actions

Not Ike's Fault?

Are you kidding me that this wasn’t Ike Taylor’s fault???? This is our best corner that we have been leaving 1 v. 1 all season to cover every top receiver in the game…then he comes to play today and gets burned for two plays over 50 yards and his man catches 2 TDs for over 200 yards…and it’s not his fault. Give me a break!!! HE ALONE LOST THIS GAME BECAUSE HE DIDN’T DO HIS JOB!!

by ColinP on Jan 8, 2012 9:06 PM EST up reply actions

when have we had him matched 1 on 1 with no safety help?

especially against a QB who really only knows how to throw the deep ball to one reciever.

by hasay on Jan 8, 2012 9:16 PM EST up reply actions

All the time..

They usually have him singled and Clark rotating over to help Gaye most of the time. Watch some games and see for yourself. It will be interesting to see if Mundy played in the right spot on the final TD, because if he did and was supposed to be a the line…Ike really f’ed up and should have played Thomas to the sidelines and not given him the middle of the field.

by ColinP on Jan 8, 2012 9:24 PM EST up reply actions

Ike had a lot of bad plays

But the last one was not on him. Mundy tried to fake a blitz and couldnt get back in time. That one is on Mundy.

Stay thirsty my friends.

by SteelerMessican on Jan 8, 2012 9:24 PM EST up reply actions

not so..

Mundy was playing underneath coverage. Ike was supposed to maintain an inside position on the receiver but he let him get to the inside. Blown coverage on Ike because the defensive play was designed for the option run and not a deep crossing pass. It was the same coverage they had earlier in the game. The fault of the Steelers’ was believing that Tebow would not throw deep against them. It’s a shame because all of the analysts said that Tebow needed to throw it to have a chance to beat the Steelers and he did.

As bad as Ike played in this game, the offense had a chance to win it at the end. But the play calling once they were in Denver territory was atrocious. They only needed a few yards to give Suisham a chance. He was kicking 59 yarders during practice with ease. I mean “delay of game” penalty when you are supposed to be running a “hurry-up” offense, are you kidding me?!!!!!

Couldn't argee with you more...

I would have maybe expected that performance from one of our rookie CBs, but not Ike. Maybe once he gets beat (the first 50 yrd to Thomas), but after that he has to adjust and so does LeBeau. Basically, the only way that the Broncos and Tebow could win the game is on big plays, and that is what exactly happened. With most of them involving Taylor.

I’m tired of hearing that he is an All-Pro CB. A top tier CB does not get beat several times in a playoff game even in man coverage…and commit penalties when not getting beat. I think he’s basically an average cover corner who is prone to get beat deep, and really needs safety help.

I Put This One on the Coaching Staff

You can’t play ten and a half men at the line. You had your answer in the second half and the answer was, yes, Tebow can beat us through the air. Put Troy in the backfield and most of those passes will be thrown, much less caught.

by 13thieves on Jan 8, 2012 10:41 PM EST up reply actions

its time....

…For this team to get healthy. Unrealistic to have expected this team to move on to the big game after taking more casualties. Im happy this team went 12-4 and made the playoffs given the doubters and the roadblocks. As for Ike – he can have his bad day because I see plenty of them.

I'd sooner get Flacco'd out here in the middle of nowhere than lose face in front of my friends and family.

Woodley and Harrison

Woodley outplayed Harrison even though played in limited action. He made an impact when he was on the field. Harrison got fooled by the option play all day. HE MUST HAVE NOT BEEN AT HE TEAM MEETINGS THIS WEEK.

Exactly my thoughts

I am glad to have made the playoffs. We were just hobbling along and it was bound to end.

One of the great disappointments of a football game is that the cheerleaders never seem to get injured.

So the draft hopefully we will get a left guard and a nose tackle

Might be time to invest another high round pick on a pass rusher

Because I saw no pass rush today

Yes Ike had a tough game...

…but it’s not like he was burnt terribly on most of those plays. On most plays he had decent position, but got beat by a well-placed pass and great play on the ball by the WR. The missed tackle in OT obvously hurt.

I think one thing that went unnoticed was how bad it hurt to have Hampton, Keisel, and Woodley out. That hurt the pass rush and gave Tebow plenty of time to hit those big plays downfield. For most of the season, the secondary only had to cover the WR’s for 3-4 seconds because of the pass rush. Today Tebow had 5-6 seconds regularly.

THIS

by SteelerMessican on Jan 8, 2012 9:25 PM EST up reply actions

Disagree

He was burnt terribly on two plays on back-to-back drives in the 2nd quarter. The 51-yarder on 3rd-12 that led to the first TD. Steelers could have got the ball back with good field pos. up 6-0. Then the 58-yarder, giving them the ball at the 12 and setting up Tebow’s run. Plus he had the pass interference penalty that gave up 32 yards in near the end of the 3rd qtr. Steelers down 20-13, would have been 3rd-8 from Den 22, instead ball moves to PIT side of field and leads to eventual FG to make it 23-13. Then the final play to lose it in OT, where Thomas simply outran him.

by Psycho Kuz on Jan 8, 2012 9:34 PM EST up reply actions

We have to all admit, Demarius Thomas played one HELLUVA game

that dude was not to be denied. I dont think Revis could have shut him down today. Sure Ike was not in top form today, but lets give DT his props. Tough inspired (by Tebow of course) play.

Stay thirsty my friends.

That Ike is from "swaggin" ever again.

Was there in person watching him get torched – don’t care WHO was missing from the line.

by SteelCurtain4Life on Jan 8, 2012 10:29 PM EST up reply actions

Ike played bad

But after getting burned a couple times you think he would have been given help with Thomas. Harrison and Woodley deserve some blame as Tebow had way to much time and that falls on their shoulders.

Redman played great, Denver never had an answer to him. Thought he should’ve had more carries especially with Ben less than 100%

thought the Steelers OL really came on well for the second half protecting him from doom and Miller.

Told ya these guys would blow it.

poor play calling, im still surprised we won 6 games this year. good riddens, BA has got to go.

they were lucky to be 12-4

lost to ravens-playoff team, lost to texans-playoff team, lodt to 49ers-playoff team, barely beat colts, browns, this is just an example of how the season really was for them. B.A. is terrible for one thing, the O-line…pathetic, theres holes all over this team

injuries never played a part in this.

by Cold_Old_Steelers_Fan on Jan 9, 2012 1:10 AM EST up reply actions

yep

Not to mention every game was poor clock management and wasting timeouts because they arent prepared or ready for the next play. This was all year, and it happened in critical games; ie, baltimore game, all we needed was another two first downs and we win that game. Basically the clock management was terrible all year, and today was no different.

by lamberts58 on Jan 9, 2012 2:11 AM EST up reply actions

ya the injured list was long

I just thought even the players they had in the game had enough tallent to beat the broncos, Ike usually wont get beat like that, the fumble and bad snap at the end were rediculous, the no safety on the first and last play of overtime was ????

by yoymon1 on Jan 9, 2012 6:51 AM EST reply actions

I can understand the dissing on Ike today

He played a terrible game but some blame goes on Coach Dad. Thomas beat Ike like a gov’t mule and no help was given. Ike has been matched up against the best WRs the other team had, game in game out and has held his own all year. This happened to be the last game and Ike is/was part of the loss. I may be wrong but I don’t remember any negative comments directed toward Ike all year long.

Some are still venting and I understand that but with out Ike"Swaggin U" Taylor we don’t get to 12-4 and make the playoffs. Cut the guy a break I bet you have never had a bad day. GO STEELERS!!!!!!

He is good there is no denial on that. There is no redemption this season..

by Mani_subs on Jan 14, 2012 11:06 PM EST up reply actions

If you are stupid enough to think Ike cost us the game then you are crazy...

at the same time Ike was pretty awful. But one player won’t cost you a game. The scheme was bad and the pass rush was even worse.

First off, its hard enough to play man coverage in Goodells league. But to do so for 5+ seconds is nearly impossible. Even Revis wouldn’t be able to do that. Straight man without safety help will get beat time and time again, and thats what happened.

Second off, the pass rush. Now I will say that its hard to expect much when all your starters are out on the D-line and Woodley wasn’t even close to 100%. Tebow never got rushed, and I do have to say that a lot of that had to do with holding. I can’t count the number of times our guys were held (especially Harrison of course), and even Ike on a Tebow designed run. Not a single hold was called this game and thats unheard of. Still though, I expect our players to at least, occasionally, fight through a hold and get the sack. We couldn’t do that, the pass rush was nonexistent.
