Blessing in disguise

Blessing in disguise

Today's loss was a very tough one to swallow. A lot of people are going to be heartbroken in Steel City for sure. But I want to let you guys look at this loss from different perspective. It was a GOOD loss in my books. I'm a die hard Steelers fan like you all are, but I think this loss was the best thing which could happen to us. Why? Well, there are many reasons for this and I'm going to list them all. First though, I want to ask a simple question. If you had a choice of winning this Superbowl at the cost of Big Ben's and Pouncey's career ending injuries in the process, what would you choose? My answer is -- No thanks.

Considering all the injuries in our beloved team, I look at this game as follows: If my team can't score a figgy in high altitude stadium withtin 2 minutes against 3 loss in a row team , it doesn't belong in the hunt this year. It's as simple as that. If we won today, we'd have put Pouncey, Big Ben and Woodley and many other banged up players to aggrevate their injuries and Big Ben and Pouncey to possibly career ending injuries. I do not want to take that chance. I know it was a heart breaking loss, but please guys, try to look at the bright side. Contrary to 70s team, this team has a chance to get younger and better after winning two trophies. We have young cogs in Ben, Pouncey, Woudley, Hood, Heyward, Wallace, Brown, Sanders, Miller, Worilds, and many others while 70s team were old and gone after their ride. We can add several pieces with the next draft and have a shot at it many more times.

God bless you all and Go Steelers !!!

A loss is never a good thing, in the playoffs even more so.

Agree wholeheartidly

This yr was a retooling yr in many ways. Out with the old and in with the new, whether it was drafting, injuries, etc. I thought from week 3 on we would make the playoffs and win 1 tops. You could see it wasn’t going to be our yr. I got excited though when I saw that every team in the AFCwas flawed. But, as you state, in many ways a blessing. Get healthy, don’t get too deep in the playoffs to mask the problems. Let the Ravens or Pats go get blasted by the Saints or Packers.

agreed

this was not our year…it became apparent after we lost to Baltimore (the second time) that injuries and mental mistakes would hamper us. I cheered hard for our team, but if we had won, theres no friggin way THIS team would have marched into NE and beaten them at their house. Better to start to offseason early…still stings like hell tho, this one hurt

Me too! I'm disgusted

I would rather lose 50 nothing. Hats off to tebow and fox, we were overconfident and coaching didn’t show up. Tomlin blew it not trying for field goal, Dick L. didn’t adjust, Ike and Troy were weak today, and Ben and Ariens can’t convert TDs. Next year we need stud NT, O line, a new OC, and need to put Ben down a peg. Ben missed throwing to wide open receivers. He should have never played after Cleveland, at San Fran he couldn’t finish throws, he and the coaches lost that game, and aggregated his injury hurting the team. With all of this talent, a very favorable schedule, this offense still can’t get it done. I am done venting, it felt good.

perhaps a personal trainer for Ben? His spare tire looked like it would fit a Mack truck

proably hard stay in shape

when you are spending all your time trying let stuff rest and get healed.

I agree though, assuming it isn’t all flak jacket, a couple or ten pounds off the waist might not hurt.

dont forget a huge play!!!!!

Legursky’s shitty snap when we had a for sure FG. Think we could have used that 3 points?

yes that was massive

but who’s to say Mr. Inconsistent doesnt miss the ensuing FG

Give Suisham his due -

he did a great job yesterday. This loss isn’t on him.

no i didn't say it was on him

nor did i say he had a poor game. i’m just saying, giving his inconsistent history, there’s no guarantee he makes a field goal if that snap doesn’t get botched.

that's the injuries for you

You can only play with so many backups before things start to fall apart, even for the Steelers.

a little much to say possible career ending injuries

If that was the case then there was no way they would be playing.

Even so...

Lots of plays could have changed the outcome and extended the season. Some of them Denver made playing good football. The one that still drives me nuts? Why on Earth would Ben take a sack on first down with 22 seconds left, with one time out, and the ball on the Bronco 45? They didn’t need the bomb—just ten yards. Hit a receiver quick (either a quick out, a slant in, a hook or Redman on a flair), call time out, and kick the kick! He had three chances—he blew them all with the first down sack.

I dunno

I think I would have rather lost by 50 to the legitimate Patriots and the Devil, aka Tom Brady to not have to lose to…..gulp….Tebow. Game plan was terrible. I blame the coaches for this loss.

Losing is never easy

But even after this one; I wouldn’t trade being a diehard fan of the Pittsburgh Steelers for anything. They gave us 12 great weeks and only 4 losses in the regular season. I’m proud that our coach doesn’t make excuses and always keeps it real.

We have nothing to be ashamed of and everything to be thankful for. We made the playoffs, against many injury odds… this team didn’t play great today; but they never, ever quit. I’m rocking the colors tomorrow and hope every member of Steeler Nation does the same.

Keep in mind; most “other” fans that give you shit don’t even have a team that was good enough to MAKE the playoffs. Flip ’em 6. We still have ’em.
Thank you Steelers for another great year to be a fan!

I just wish we didn't have to lose to that Smug Tebow...

But I knew this year wasn’t gonna be it… I figured we’d probably lose to New England… Just too banged up… But I still get that horrible feeling in the pit of my stomach over it… At least now I won’t have to endure heart failure again until the season starts back up in September…

by docsteeler on Jan 9, 2012 6:47 AM EST reply actions

I was happy to get as far as we did this season with our players all banged up. Even if we had won this game, I was not feeling optimistic about our chances beyond this game. We will have a shot at another suberbowl. It just won’t be this year.

Now, my dream: Knock out the Ravens and the 49ers.

One of the great disappointments of a football game is that the cheerleaders never seem to get injured.

I was there yesterday and it felt ugly from the beginning!!

When we drove down twice on the Broncos and only came away with 6 points i had a feeling it was gonna be a tough day!! This is a game Ike will soon like to forget just as much as I do!! Living in Colorado and having to hear all these bandwagon jumpers praise Tebow, a week after saying they need a real qb, is getting old!! The difference between us and them is, we expect to win playoff games every year! The way these people are acting you would think they won the Super Bowl yesterday! I had a feeling that we were overlooking the Broncos all week and my biggest fear, losing to them, came true!! I too see the silver lining and feel that if Tim Tebow could throw all over us like he did, I’d hate to see what Tom Brady would’ve done to us next week.

I'm with you, Bonek -

I’m just glad we’re out before anybody else can get hurt. Honestly, if we weren’t going to have a reasonable chance at the SB I’d rather it were over sooner rather than later, before anyone else got badly injured. Not that there were many left…

I said the same today. I would rather have been beaten yesterday than watch my guys limp, claw and scratch (with great, great heart) into an AFCC loss to anyone.

The Steelers showed exceptional determination and guts throughout this season. I’m disappointed FOR them; not IN them.

Like the Youth

Yes, I like our youth and like the fact many of them gained a ton of palying time. I do question #53 and the overall offensive approach. I like #53 and this is not an indictment on him but I have met him and he may want to hit the gym a bit more serioulsy to prevent these injuries. Dermonte D and Mike W heck even Jeff H play in these playoff games… jsut saying. My main concern in Bubble screen Bruce and our offense. Clueless at times and placing undo stress on our Defense, which has aged but is still awfully good for the most part.
