Can I please get a redo with Will Smith's "Gettin' Jiggy With It" song? Or better yet, how about a do over for the first 5 games of Ziggy's 2012 season and the entire Steelers defense. If you are a former 2009 first round draft pick of the Steelers, how would you train in the off season to prepare for the upcoming year? Would you run hills, do some P90X, follow "gut" Hampton's routine, or possibly dance to Gangnam Style all day?
Ziggy decided to shake things up, not including Hampton's gut and followed this training regimen: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Sq53TKUWxNQ. When word got out to Steeler Nation about Ziggy training this intensely there was more buzz about it than bees chasing you down for interrupting their "honey" time. Fans were excited and figured these workouts would lead Ziggy to big defensive numbers and a break out year.
Then the preseason began followed by the first few games of the Steelers regular season schedule including the Broncos, Jets, and Raiders. That Ziggy buzz lasted as long as a 72 oz. Big Texan steak would when put in front of Adam Richman. The questions then became "Where's Ziggy" and is he still on the roster because his numbers weren't adding up to those off season workouts. Actually if you put Ziggy in the Steelers 80th Anniversary uniform he looks like a big bumble bee and could take over Waldo's gig. Through five games, Ziggy has seven solo tackles, one assisted tackle, and one sack.
The one play that stands out to me for Ziggy's 2012 season through five games is when he was cut block by the Raiders offensive linemen. While walking off the field, he was throwing his arms around, pointing at the Raiders team, and most likely giving the "beep" button extra work while talking. He might have burned about 300 calories with all those body movements.
I have to criticize Geico for getting their casting wrong when choosing the "happy" bodybuilder for directing traffic with traffic lights down. Ziggy would have been perfect with his "happy" body flex and stopping city traffic causing road rage amongst all drivers. Steeler Nation would love nothing more than seeing Ziggy's body flex celebration because that means he is making plays again. In fact, I'd like to put in a request right now for Ziggy to do his body flex against the Bengals just to let Steeler Nation know he is on the field.
