Ike does a weekly show on Trib Live Radio and this past Tuesday made a point of discussing some Steelers defensive statistics and taking a few shots at the Pittsburgh media specifically Bob Pompeani. So instead of shutting down opposing wide receivers, Ike has taken to the airwaves to attempt to shut down his critics. One of the statistics Ike pointed out was how the Steelers are currently ranked 3rd on ESPN.com and 4th on NFL.com in passing defense. He then talked about some other Steelers defensive statistics and almost reminded me of the weekly talks Ike is having on the sidelines with Mike Tomlin after his mental break downs and penalties. I will credit Ike for reminding listeners that the Steelers are ranked 10th currently in scoring defense with allowing 23.0 points per game and stated that's totally unacceptable.

A few statistics Ike didn't want to talk about since it wouldn't support his argument are the Steelers currently rank 31st in the NFL for allowing offenses a 49.15% 3rd down conversion rate. At this point of the season, the Steelers defense has a 1.24% sack rate which ranks them 29th. Of course the only statistic that really matters at this point is the Pittsburgh Steelers own a 2-3 record which is good for 3rd place in the AFC North Division.

I understand that Ike and the entire Steelers defense is frustrated and not playing up to their standards, but I don't like it when players focus more on newspaper articles and criticism from other media talking heads and fans. Right now the only thing that should matter with the Steelers coaching staff and all players is how to get better both offensively and defensively and get back to stacking some wins. When Ike regains his confidence, then he can even get back to the "Face Me Ike" hand gesture.

Until Ike regains his shut down ability, he may want to think about redoing his NBC Sunday Night football introduction. Now would be the perfect opportunity since they play this coming Sunday night and take on the Cincinnati Bengals. Instead of "Swagging U", Ike may want to go with "Searching for my Swag". Maybe Bob Pompeani can even send Ike a shout out after the game. Now that Ike got out his frustration with Bob, he can focus on how to shut down AJ Green this Sunday night.
