Woodley tweaked a hamstring for the third time in the team's last 17 games in Week 8 against Washington. He was held out of practice Wednesday and his status for Sunday's Week 9 game at the Giants is unknown.
The Steelers have been without outside linebacker LaMarr Woodley several times in the past year. Week 8 was the game anniversary of a hamstring injury that sidelined Woodley for pretty much the remainder of the 2011 season.
He tweaked his hamstring in Week 8 in 2012, too, this time against the Washington Redskins. He was held out of practice Wednesday in preparation for the Steelers Week 9 road showdown with the defending champion Giants.
It's too early to suggest he won't play - especially considering veterans like Woodley often get held out for minor injuries in an effort to keep them fresh for the game. But it's the second time this season Woodley has had issues with a hamstring.
Joining him on the sideline of practice was Troy Polamalu (calf) and Marcus Gilbert (knee), both of whom have already been ruled out of Sunday's game. Still in question are Stevenson Sylvester (hamstring) and running back Jonathan Dwyer (quadriceps), neither of whom practiced Wednesday.
Limited in practice were RB Baron Batch (shin) and RB Rashard Mendenhall (Achilles).
