Steelers Injury Report: potential absences of Willie Colon and Mike Adams in Week 13 would hurt offensive depth even more

Charles LeClaire-US PRESSWIRE

Willie Colon missed the entire game against Cleveland in Week 11, and Adams was injured in the third quarter. If either of them, or both, cannot play in Week 13, the Steelers offensive depth would get even more shallow.

The Steelers suffered huge hits to their depth at quarterback in Weeks 10 and 11. Their wide receivers took big injuries in Weeks 9 and 11.

The offensive line joins them, seeing two big injuries in Weeks 11 and 12.

Left guard Willie Colon had a knee injury in the Steelers' Week 11 loss to Baltimore, and he was scratched from the lineup right before the Steelers' kickoff against Cleveland in Week 12. Right tackle Mike Adams went down with an ankle injury in the third quarter of the loss to the Browns.

If neither can play in Week 13 against Baltimore, the Steelers' offense will put out perhaps its thinnest group of healthy starters in quite a while.

In the event neither Adams nor Colon can play in Week 12, the Steelers will start Doug Legursky at left guard and will have to get former starter Marcus Gilbert to play on an injured ankle at right tackle.

This is also optimistically predicting the returns of quarterback Ben Roethlisberger and WR Antonio Brown - neither are guaranteed, and if both play, neither will be 100 percent.

But the Steelers simply don't have the depth to compete against AFC North-leading Baltimore without them.

This isn't even mentioning that, without Colon, they would not have a back-up interior offensive lineman on the active roster. It would most likely mean another call-up for OG John Malecki, who dressed for the Steelers' Week 7 game against Cincinnati. He was released after the game and signed back to the practice squad, where he currently resides.
