Due to the damage caused by Hurricane Sandy earlier in the week, the Steelers elected to travel the day of the game as opposed to the league-mandated one day before games. Here is the timeline of that trip.
It was a bit different, that's for sure.
Did traveling the day of the game affect the Steelers in any way? It didn't seem like it, by and large, the Steelers played well in their 24-20 victory over the New York Giants.
Thanks to the Steelers (@Steelers) and Tribune-Review reporter Mark Kaboly (MarkKaboly_trib), we get to see the entire timeline, as documented in a way that gives fans insight into how players prepare before games, even in odd circumstances like the events of Sunday.
After staying Saturday night at the Omni Hotel in Pittsburgh, they drove themselves to the airport for a 9:28 a.m. ET flight to Newark, N.J.
The flight took less than an hour, and the team was at the hotel in Newark by just before 11 a.m. ET. After a team-provided team meal at the hotel, the team left the hotel and arrived at Met Life Stadium right before noon.
From there, the basic game preparation activities ensued as per usual until the team hit the field for warm-ups.
The Steelers beat up the Giants, took a 24-20 victory by kneeling the game out (third time in a row doing that) at 7:32 p.m. ET. Showering and changing, the team was back on the bus an hour later, and back in Pittsburgh at 10:13 a.m. ET.
All in all, a great day of work, but with eight more, they'll have to move onto the next one immediately.
