The outlook wasn't brilliant for the Pittsburgh team that day
The score stood 20-13 with one quarter left to play
The home team fans were then convinced the game was won indeed
For in the end zone lurking was wily old Ed Reed
And when he intercepted, Black and Gold hearts were dismayed
(They knew the game could be pulled out if Roethlisberger played-
But Ben was still a’mending and Leftwich too was bruised)
And so it came to pass that day that Charlie Batch was used
And that is why at M&T the cheers began to ring
For Baltimore now had the ball (and Charlie was third-string…)
But Silverback came crashing through and knocked the ball from Joe
Ziggy Hood recovered it, and on the field did go
Eleven men in Black and Gold to make this game a match
Behind the coolness then displayed by “Homestead Charlie” Batch
Heath Miller then did catch the ball that clever Charlie threw
He reached out for the pylon; which made John Harbaugh blue
And after Baltimore did punt (the game was now a tie)
Charlie Batch was called upon to give it one last try
He marched the team straight down the field – the minutes ticked away
And after Tomlin called time out the kick went on its way...
Oh somewhere folks are smiling (The Chief, Chuck Noll, the Chin…)
And somewhere shocked expressions have transformed into grins
And on the field Ben’s hugging Batch, who’s made himself a name
But there’s no joy in Crab-town: The Steelers won the game!
