Terrell Suggs is such an ungrateful person

Imagine this, he was very thankful to Ray Lewis and Ed Reed, but not a single word for Bruce Arians or Big Ben, what an ungrateful person. Obviously, without one of two great games he had against us and our "great" plan, he would not have won that award.

So, if you needed another reason to dislike Bruce think of this one: Ratbirds will have 3 DPOY in their team playing at same time. Thanks Bruce, you will be missed here.

Not after his disappearing act late in the season

Allen should have won it hands down.

Cornell University Class of 2014

I always look at these awards as whose performance on the year was more important to their team? Take away Allen’s 22 sacks, and they are still a crap team. Take away Suggs 14 sacks and 7FF, we probably finish 10-6 instead of 12-4.

Harrison led the league in FF when he won it just like Suggs did and I think that stat plays a HUGE part in the voting.

And just for the record since Steeler fans don’t think Suggs was deserving, we don’t think Troy was deserving last year.

I called him the DPOY a couple months back, and I agree he deserved it.

I agree with your rationale, Allen had a great year sure but how big an impact was he really? A lot of sacks but not as many turnovers, big plays, clutch plays etc as Terrell Suggs. Suggs was the best defensive player on one of the better defenses in the league, therefore his impact had a much bigger influence on the rest of his team.

Its almost the same rationale as to why Harrison won it over Demarcus Ware a few seasons back. Harrison was far more clutch, and made bigger plays rather than just getting a lot of sacks.

Have to agree with you here MaLoR...

…Suggs impact on the Ravens success this year far exceeds Allen’s impact.

Appreciate it. Glad to see Suggs finally get honored, because he went through some tough shit a few years ago and got to this point.

Many always thought he was overrated after he signed a $63 million and had a rough year with weight issues, but us Ravens fans always knew he was the best OLB in this division : )

Suggs isn’t overrated, the guy is a beast. I personally don’t like him, but then again I don’t personally like James Harrison. That doesn’t impact my opinion that he is a great player and a game changer. Same goes for Suggs.

okay… i admit, he’d be able to rotate snaps. he’s not benching woodley or harrison tho, both of which are better vs run. suggs > woodley vs pass but = harrison imo

by GDEUCE on Feb 7, 2012 4:02 PM EST up reply actions

And I stick by that. Right now, I feel that Suggs is better than Harrison and it is for numerous reasons such as age, injury concerns, etc. Not a knock on Harrison at all.

Thats kinda of crap

Its not the Most Relevant Defensive Player of the year award.

And for the record when your second in the league in INTs and have 30 more tackles then Ed Reed and Clay Mathews, I say it was warranted.

Troy had a great year, but most Ravens fans were upset because we saw Ed Reed lead the league in ints while only playing in 10 games. Seemed like a very impressive accomplishment that didn’t warrant much credit in the DPOY voting.

I am not saying he didnt deserved

My pont is he got because we play poor, BA didnt made any adjustments on Suggs on those two games, and now thanks to that, Suggs got the DPOY, good for him. He had very good games against us, the best games this year for him.

No I meant he one where hours of film study and recognizing the exact play that Ben was going to run. If you heard the interviews from both Pagano and Suggs after that game (which I am sure you did not) Suggs was supposed to all out blitz on that play, but check out of it when he realized when play was coming.

That is what DPOY do.

who was allens supporting cast as compared to suggs? not saying suggs isn`t a good olb but he was invisible at the end of season. as far as what you or anybody else who drinks purple kool aid thinks about troy nobody else cares. reed and troy play 2 different positions. while reed sits back as a ball hawk troy had ints played the run tough and caused mayhem at the line of scrimmage. 43 won games by int`s qb sacks and strip sacking a certain qb in a big game. troy pulled off game sealing plays, not just stat padding plays. as far as raven fans knowing you have the best olb i`m cool with that because i`d rather have harrison any day.

The only player teams had to worry about on the Vikings D was Allen, and they still couldn’t stop him

by GDEUCE on Feb 6, 2012 11:08 PM EST up reply actions

that’s one reason I think Allen deserved the award. He was a Brett Favre away from breaking the single season sack record. If only Josh McCown could have been as accommodating

who was allens supporting cast as compared to suggs?

Allen is a beast, no question about that. But I look at it as who did Suggs have to out perform on a Ravens defense full of stars.

It is one thing to be the best player on a shitty defense, but it is another thing to be the best player on a defense that has some HOF guys playing on all 3 levels.

And honestly, I don’t give a shit about Troy’s award, that was the past. He is an insane player, never heard me say otherwise.

and just for the record……… we don`t think troy deserved it last year

by md.lambert on Feb 7, 2012 7:29 PM EST up reply actions

I wouldn’t go that far, but I do think a case could be made for Ed Reed over Troy from last year than you can Allen over Suggs of this year.

I look at how their impact affects winning, and clearly for you guys when Troy plays, you win alot. When he doesn’t play…..well your records shows you are a mediocre team. Same case with Suggs, we might have missed out on the playoffs all together if not for a few of his performances this year.

"Picture Me Rollin"

I

look at how their impact affects winning

The award isn’t “what defensive player helped you win more games”
the award is “defensive player of the year”
Sorry that is confusing to you, but knowing that you are still sorting out your legal troubles and restraining orders filed against you, I won’t hold it against you.

Agreed

Suggs deserved it this year, no arguments. Although I think if it went through the playoffs, maybe it becomes Justin Smith?

Why? He disappeared for so much of the year that it was not even funny. Hell, 9 of his sacks and 5 of his forced fumbles came in three games, and that should definitely come into consideration. I’m sorry, but with 22 sacks, 4 FF, and 66 tackles, Jared Allen should have won it hands down.

Suggs is more rounded

Suggs is better against the run and drops into coverage a lot more. Jared Allen really only rushes the passer well and helps out some in run support.

Suggs expression.

The complete shock and stunned look on Suggs face when Cundiff choked was classic. Won’t forget. As for Suggs winning DPOY I got no problem with it. He had a terrific year.

Proud fan of Pittsburgh's professional sports teams and the Pirates too.

While I hate him

And he stanks, I will allow it. I have no real beef with his selection. Aldon Smith of the 49ers was a meast but you have to know he was inserted on a lot of plays and wasn’t the starter. Basically this year they used him for only one thing: Sacks. They designed plays completely around gettin him to sack somebody.

As was noted it’s not Defensive MVP it’s DPOY so Suggs seems like the right call to me. It’s a shame Harrison had a bad year with back problems and the broken eye socket (on a H2H colllision not caused by 92 mind you). And Woodley’s Hammy sucked all year.

Them two healthy I think James woulda had another trophy this year.
