Saunders 4 game suspension

I hope this is not true but reports out that Saunders failed a drug test and will be suspended first 4 games of next year. Not a good sign for someone who can really contribute and the Steelers took a chance on.

I still hope the Steelers keep him around if he can turn it around.

To me David Johnson will have a tough time making the team next year or if he does for the first 4 games.

Are they really doing drug tests at this point?

TE woes...

I was looking forward for Saunders moving up to the #2 spot this season.
Suspended for the 1st 4 games should not effect his participation in off-season workouts or training camp so his development should be on schedule……football-wise.
Great potential here…..I hope this isn’t a taste for things to come with the lad.

The last several off-seasons for the Steelers read more like a soap opera/drama. (Ben, Hines DUI, Harrison, injuries, etc etc) I’m starting to cringe when post-season starts. Goes to show that there are so many unknown variables that are not football related when planning goes into an upcoming season.
Hoping this is the only off-season drama!!!

If true...

…what a huge “f you” this sends to the people who were willing to give him a chance after his well-documented collegiate troubles.

Especially coming off the example those people made of Tone, after giving him chances as well. I’d draft a TE on the second day, just to send him a message.

Word has it that it was a theraputic drug

Which could just mean his gf made feed him some strange herbal tea from a health food store that interacted with something legal he was using as a supplement or it could mean he was screwed by the supplement maker because the didn’t properly explain what was in the supplements nor how those ingredients would react after consumed.

Of course he may have thought he could pull a fast one but there have been a lot of Olympic athletes burnt by using cheapo supplements from Romania or someplace else (because many really don’t have a lot of money too spend).

I suspect we will hear more soon enough.

93-7 The Fan reporting it was reported on scout.com

Also on steelersdepot.com but Bean doesn’t like those guys too much. They don’t report their source on steelersdepot….just " being reported on several outlets"

If it is true, I hope they give him a second chance.

You don't get suspended until your second fail

so if this is true that means Saunders had to have failed two drug test.

I love the Steelers.

Any word if his drugs were muscle builders used to try and cheat his competition?

Were his drugs performance enhancers used to cheat his competition? I can’t stand that. That would put him in Belicek territory. If it was a muscle builder, then Wes may lose some strength and mass as he comes back down to his real size.

I tend to think so

Saunders was still a 3rd stringer and only had potential to be better, he wasn’t there yet. We had two other TEs in camp who had a legit shot at the roster as well, Jamie McCoy and Vaughn Charlton.

Now, I wouldn’t be surprised if we draft a TE.

It’s starting to sound like he did nothing wrong. With that being said, I think (and hope) he stays.

Very well could be...

…and a damn shame, given what we learned of this kid from the article in Post-Gazette during the season. I would have hoped he had matured more for the tribulations he went through getting to the NFL.

Hold on, at least let him appeal the suspension first. We don’t even know what PED he tested positive for

I think he stays

My gut tells me he will stay. However, he has to know he will be walking on egg shells. The Steelers held onto Tonio after the rookie issues (marajuana bust and club incident). Then after all of the twitter stuff enough was enough. (Plus the suspension).

My money says Saunders stays but will be told the leash is now very short.

Its crazy to see how fast

people are ready to turn on you in the slightest hint of a mishap. Glad I don’t have some of ya’ll as friends. :) JK

Seriously though like it has been said above it is turning out that this may not be as bad as first thought and Weslye might be able to win an appeal.

I love the Steelers.

Has a suspension even been announced?

I don't think officially

by the NFL, nor do I see anything about it on the steelers.com nor on NFL.com this thing could be over-turned by Sept. Hopefully it will and Saunders bust on the scene this season.

I love the Steelers.
