The Trenches

Now that the Steelers have spent the last 3 years revamping both sides of the line in the early rounds, it seems that maybe they have been neglecting some other areas? My question is where will they have needs next year?

WR - With the possibility of Wallace leaving next year, WR won't be a glaring need due to Colbert getting Brown and Sanders, which have proved to be late round gems. Unless an injury or free agency creates a problem, WR won't be an immediate need, yet I wouldn't be surprised to see a highly-rated WR fall right into their laps.

RB - It seems every year a new running back enters the fold? Doesn't it? Willie Parker, Camp Sensation Issac Redman, Dwyer, Batch, and now Rainey. Even with Mendenhall being one of Colbert's less than thrilling first round picks, I can't see the Steelers using an early pick here.

TE - Bruce Arians is gone, and while Heath Miller is still a beast, Leonard Pope is in the house, and there's still David Johnson and Weslye Saunders...I think there's a chance the Steelers could pick a TE as early as round 3.

QB - Not anytime soon

DL - Unless the Steelers new NT is a complete bust, I don't see any early pics taken here, although with Keisel being over 30, another DE would be good for depth.

LB - Ok, I don't think the Steelers got the ILB they wanted, but we'll wait and see how Sly/Foote work this season. Still, not much depth here. Jury out on Spence and whether he fits in here. Harrison is older, not much depth beyond Worilds. Could it be a repeat of the Timmons/Woodley draft?

DB - Although the Steelers have used a lot of mid-round picks on CB's in the last few years, you gotta think "surely one of them will pan out" right? Ike is our closest thing to a lock-down corner, and he's getting up there in age. Perhaps Lewis, Brown, or Allen will be ready? Obviously, one of them will start opposite of Ike this year, but I still see a need for depth here and possibly a high pick may be needed. While I sincerely hope Myron Rolle takes a big step forward, the reality is I'm not sure how long he would even play if he did. Troy and Ryan Clark are aging. I would be happy to see a high pick here.
