So, now that the draft is over and the UDFAs have been signed, does anyone know when the Steelers will assign jersey numbers to the new players? Additionally, does anyone know all of the numbers that are reserved? Here are the numbers that I know are not presently being used and/or assigned:

12 - Bradshaw

32 - Harris

36 - Bettis

52 - Webster

58 - Lambert

59 - Ham

63 - Dawson

75 - Greene

(I realize the list of names is almost certainly not necessary for the usual BTSC reader, but I thought I'd add it for any casual visitor and for the sake of completeness).

I assume Ward's 86 will be added to the list. What about 51 for Farrior and 91 for Smith? Does anyone think all three should be taken out of use?

I just looked at the roster on www.steelers.com, http://www.steelers.com/team/roster.html, and the available numbers are:

1 - 3, 9- 11, 21-22, 35. 37, 48-49, 51, 61, 68, 69, 76, 78, 81, and 91.

So, what number does DeCastro wear? Does he and the FO contact the Webster family out of respect to the late Iron Mike and request it's use? What about Adams, does he take 78 on the assumption that Starks is not re-signed after rehabbing his knee? Does Spence request 51 or 91 since they appear to be the only available LB numbers? Or, do these guys wait until some of the camp bodie are cut? For instance, we currently have two guys assigned #67, Trevis Turner and Kade Weston (who???). Finally, what about Ta’amu?

If you're wondering, I've read all the posts about how great our draft is/was and how awesome it will be next season to watch our OL literally bodyslam the opposition, so I thought I would go in a different direct about the potential impact this draft would have upon the current assignment of jerseys. After all, this may certainly have a direct impact upon us fans since we'll be the ones buying them... I own only two, Lambert and Hines, but I'm thinking about buying another one. I've yet to wear the 86. I'm saving it for our 1st game against the Ratbirds.
