My Dream 2012 Steelers Draft:

This draft class would be the class of my dreams if it came out this way. I know it's not so likely but it's not so outrageously unlikely that it's impossible. Well, here it goes:

Round 1 Pick 24: OG David Decastro

This guy is atop most of our dream draft boards, the guy all of us would jump out of our chairs if he were to fall into our lap more than anyone else. Despite his extremely high grade, enormous upside, and ability to come in and start right away, guards very often fall farther than they should in drafts. Many pundits have him going to the Bengals with one of their 2 first round picks, but I wouldn't put it past the Bengals FO to screw up and take someone else instead. Steelers fans now can watch their first mainstay at guard since Alan Faneca left.

Round 2 Pick 24: NT Alameda Ta'amu

With a year (at least) to learn from incumbent Casey Hampton, Colbert drafts the NT of the future with excellent strength and skills. He, Ziggy, and Cam would form a dominant 3-4 D-line for years to come.

Round 3 Pick 24: ILB Mychal Kendricks

What's better than one athletic beast at ILB? How about two! Pairing Kendricks with Lawrence Timmons at ILB would instantly give us probably the most versatile and athletic LB corps in the league.

Round 4 Pick 24: OG Brandon Brooks

Another guard I'm excited about that might fall this far to us. Even if he doesn't start right away, picture an o-line a year or two down the road of Gilbert-Decastro-Pouncey-Brooks-Colon. That would make me ecstatic.

***I'm not much of an expert, so past this point in the draft I don't know many players left, so I will just write the positions I think should be addressed. If any of you know of a prospect that can fit I'd appreciate your comments.

Round 5 Pick 24: a Safety

I'd take an athletic safety here, hopefully for Polamalu or Clark to help groom into a potential replacement.

Round 6 Pick 24: a K

I'm sick of the feeling I get every time Suisham trots down to the 30 ready to kick his FG.

Round 7 Pick 33: a RB

another player to compete for snaps in Mendenhall's absence. I am very opposed to an early round pick being used on a RB.

Round 7 Pick 39: a TALL WR

Take a chance on a tall, athletic one, even from a small school.

Round 7 Pick 41: an OT

also, an athletic guy from a smaller school that could grow into a solid tackle to replace Colon perhaps in a few years.
