Over the last few years, more and more teams are picking apart the Steelers in a short range passing attack. No doubt, most have tried to copy the Patriots in this approach. I've seen at least 5 or 6 drives in which the Pats used 6-8 minutes of clock and absolutely gassed the defense. If I'm gonna get killed, I want it quick-like. At least my defense gets off the field and can live to fight another day. Plus, long bombs are much less of a percentage play.
The answer. Move Troy to cover the slot for two reasons. First, he's great in tight spaces has great reflexes. His strength would be an advantage when he gets an opp to jam the receiver at the snap. Plus his top end speed is pretty good for a safety. Brings back visions of Carnell Lake. Secondly, it would give Lebeau another sick creation. He could blitz out of the press, and Troy's football smart's would lead him to smell out draw plays, screens etc.
I'm not sure this works 365/24/7. However, what it would say to opposing offenses is, " Ok, you want to throw little slants and hooks all day? Fine. We'll just press you til the cows come home and kill your quarterback." Sort a variation of the ol' bears 46 defense.
