The Steelers announced the signing of seventh-round draft pick WR Toney Clemons to a four-year contract. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Clemons, from the University of Colorado, led the Buffaloes with 43 catches and 680 receiving yards. He has good size (6-foot-2, 210 pounds) but is said to have a case of the dropsies - certainly something that can be fixed with effort and repetition.
Perhaps most importantly, Clemons looks to compete against a strong group of veteran receivers, Mike Wallace, Antonio Brown, Emmanuel Sanders and Jerricho Cotchery. While Clemons may pale in comparison to the quartet in terms of experience, speed and explosion, he does have them in height.
The Steelers have signed three picks so far - Clemons, 4th round pick Alameda Ta'amu and 5th round pick Chris Rainey. First and second round picks David DeCastro and Mike Adams join 3rd round pick Sean Spence and 7th round picks David Paulson, Terrence Frederick and Kelvin Beachum as the remaining unsigned Steelers draft picks.
