Anything newsworthy about the team in the nation's capitol is centered around the 2012 NFL Draft's No. 2 overall pick, Robert Griffin III.
Perhaps rightly so. After enduring the Rex Grossman's and John Beck's of the quarterbacking world, the Redskins gave up a slew of picks to select the franchise quarterback. We've debated on here the value vs. the necessity of that trade, and in the end, you need at least an above-average quarterback to compete in this league, and particularly with a strong division of passers, Washington finally joined the arms race.
It probably won't matter this year, though.
Redskins Improvements
Here's the quarterback again. Griffin's success will most likely come in bursts, and like every passer, he'll have some good throws, he'll have some not-so-good throws. It's entirely possible Griffin has a year like Panthers QB Cam Newton did in 2011 - lots of stats, not many wins - but without the rushing piece.
They even really made the point to emphasize the position by drafting Michigan State's Kirk Cousins in the 4th round.
Washington improved top to bottom in the sense they gained that piece of their puzzle, and losing veterans like FS O.J. Atogwe, LB Rocky McIntosh and OG Sean Locklear won't hurt the team.
Redskins Losses
SS LaRon Landry is the only notable loss, and whether he returns to form after a season-ending injury in 2011 remains to be seen. When boiled down, the Redskins roster is not overly talented or deep, and they will, in many ways, start rebuilding around Griffin this year.
