The Steelers released RB Jason Ford despite a solid effort against Indianapolis in the team's second preseason game.

Ford rushed eight times for 42 yards against the Colts' taxi squad, leading former Steelers WR Hines Ward, who was in the Sunday Night Football booth with Cris Collinsworth, to call him "another Jerome Bettis."

Ford's size, and not necessarily his overall skill, lead to the comment, but his 251-pound frame did resemble that of the former Steelers great.

Ford suffered a hamstring injury in that game against the Colts, and was unable to play in the Steelers' third preseason game, a 38-7 win over Buffalo Saturday.

The Steelers signed WR Mike Wallace today, thus leading to the roster move. It's disappointing it had to be Ford, but he was as long a shot to continue a career in Pittsburgh as any player.

Even more disappointing is the backfield combination of Dujuan Harris and Ford won't be realized - at least not this year.
