In reality I expect none of these guys to be wearing Black & Gold this coming season, however, I can see a bunch of guys out there that could and should interest us as we try to cover injuries, improve special teams and bolster depth. I see weaknesses at FB, where Will Johson is unproven, WR where we only have 4 guys currently. Offensive Line where depth is questionable, LB where injuries are biting us hard right now and CB where again we're only carrying 4 guys. So who piqued my interest so far on the waiver wire?
Fullbacks
Moran Norris let go by the Texans. More the lead blocking type
Rock Cartwright let go by the 49ers. Cartwright could be a great option in Haley's offense. He's also a great special teamer.
Ovie Mughelli terriffic lead blocker
Shaun Chapas Cowboys Special teamer with blocking ability, been backing up Lawrence Vickers
Wide Reciever
Tori Gurley ditched by the Packers. Fits that big WR model big time
Marvin McNutt released by the Eagles. Again a big WR
Tiquan Underwood is a guy who came out same year as Mike Wallace, timed at similar speeds. He got hurt early in his career and didn't really develop. Could still be a deep threat though
Seji Ajirotutu decent start as a rookie then changed teams. Never caught on in Carolina 6'3" and 210lbs
Linebacker
Ricky Sapp dumped by the Jets. Is a guy who I really liked coming out of college but has had some injuries. Think he might still be PS eligible.
Orie Lemon waived by Cowboys. He's not Navarro Bowman but he could be a Sean Spence replacement. Good against the pass.
Tank Carder released by the Bills. Would make for good Steeler material. Good leader, hard worker, productive in college. Surprised he was released.
Cordarro Law let go by the Seahawks. Pass rusher, 6'1" 255lbs, was a popular draft pick here I believe. Possible OLB potential in the 3-4
Quan Sturdivant from Cardinals. Familiar with the inside of a 3-4.
Cornerback
Joselio Hanson experienced guy, along similar lines to William Gay but better. Play him inside, I think he's a perfect fit for us. However, I believe he's well thought of around the league, he'll probably be too expensive
Crezdon Butler waived by Arizona. Knows our D, surplus to requirements in Steelers West, but they are looking pretty good at CB.
Offensive Line
Dan Koppen surplus to requirements in New England. If he's healthy this is a potential starter for us right here. I would guess he'd be expensive though. But possibilities at RG for us, also the possibility he could play C and Pouncey plays RG. Extremely unlikely to happen
Rishaw Johnson loosed by the Seahawks. Was a hot tip to be a draft pick by us. California (PA) guy... Practice Squad offer perhaps?
Mario Henderson ex Raider and now ex Charger. Has starting experience. Something lacking in the vast majority of OL cuts so far.
