Bye Week Opportunity

Ladies and Gentlemen of Steeler Nation, we have an opportunity. The NFL has spat in the faces of its players and fans, and laughed as they still collect money off of the chaos that they've created. These replacement referees have been abysmal to say the least. Its unfortunate, because they were put in an impossible situation by Roger Goodell and the NFL owners. They are severely under-qualified to be a part of NFL games, and this has become increasingly evident with each and every play over the last 3 weeks. I can only hope that they and their families are not harmed by some crazed, angry fan (most likely from the Green Bay area) because it is not their fault that they have been asked to do something beyond their capabilities. The fault lies with Roger Goodell and his team of advisors who have stubbornly dismissed the real referees. I cannot imagine being a Packers fan right now, and I do not know what I would do if our Steelers had been ripped of a win because of the mistake of a referee who has no business stepping on an NFL field. The entire premise of these games is to prove which team is better, and these games are entirely tainted by the lack of competent officiating. The Seahawks were not the better team last night, plain and simple. These games mean nothing.

I could point to any number of other examples, but I think my point is clear to everyone: something needs to be done. What I am asking (and I know that I am not the first to do so) is for Steeler Nation to come together and reject this filth that Roger Goodell is now expecting us to watch. With an early bye week, we have an opportunity to show the NFL that this is not acceptable. Of all the things that Roger Goodell has done to destroy the game we love, this is by far the most egregious. This is not the NFL that I love. This is not the NFL that I want to support.

Steeler Nation, use the bye week to send a message. Do not watch any football this weekend. Do not turn your TV to any games even to check the score, that's what the internet is for. As a fan who doesn't get to watch many games anyway because of where I live, I can tell you it is not THAT bad. Now for those of you who cannot help but watch other games, I offer you this: sports bars across the country will be showing the games regardless of who the refs are, so go watch the games there. At least that way you won't be adding to the numbers of viewers the NFL can't point to and say "everyone is still watching the games, it doesn't matter who we get to referee the games." Let's see how well the NFL does without one of its proudest and most loyal fan bases!
