Wallace will go....Haley's offense was designed for short game across the middle. If Haley stays, no way Wallace stays. Like the reason Burres left in the 90's....he wants to fly downfield and in all honesty he's built for that. Even if Haley goes to the Chiefs
, no guarantee some other coordinator would come in with the same plan; which in essence worked since even though Big Ben was smashed enough.....he wasn't smashed AS much.
The problem with running back by committe is any back will tell you they may need a 1/4 or two to get cranking. Bettis gained most of his yards in the second halfs after defenses got wore down. Backs will fumble. That was the other problem. In one game in Cleveland Tomlin benched everyone. That happens. When, besides the Giants
game did you see a back in the whole game to establish themselves?
Restructure: as usual, including Ben....some selfless players are willing to make cap room by restructing their contracts. It would be wise to let Harrison do the same and keep him...all he wants to do is play and there are still a few years left in him.
Concentrate on the defensive backs, really only two are looking for more money but from what they are saying are not asking for the moon.
Draft- like it or not, Ben needs an understudy. I hope Batch stays as a coach. But now is the time to look for a #2, built in the frame of Big Ben (Remember he came from U of Ohio) and there others out there that are raw, big guys ready to learn. Why Big? because the steelers have had their QB's heads taken off as long as I can remember and to play here it's part of the deal. The line is young and will gel. Give a bigger role to Cotchery like Hines had to keep Miller from getting killed...if he can come back. Get rid of mendenhall for a six pack...I don't care if it's cold. Some of the best backs in the NFL come late in the draft.
We're not that far off. We'll never be a New England style offense. We'll always win by 14 points or less...it's the way it is. Since Bettis we haven't been able to take air out of the ball. We lost some games this year because of that, so let's get back to that.
Lastly, I didn't like Haley's philosphy with the offensive weapons we had that we really never used. A wasted year. No, I'm not calling for his head because of the year we had. I think it was the wrong move before we were 6-3.
