Steelers.Com posted Mike Tomlin's press conference where he opened by answering any reporters questions on the subject of his interference in a kick return by the Baltimore Ravens. Coach owned up to his mistake and while the situation was embarrassing to him, he went into an in-depth defense of the integrity of the game of football.
It was easy to tell from watching the answers given that Coach Tomlin was telling the truth and holds himself to the highest standards and integrity. I believe the man.
Didn't pay much attention to this story though I am sure the Skip Bayless's of the world were speculating up a storm. I did catch a couple of articles here at BTSC about FootGate or whatever has been chosen as the moniker for this story, one was by Neal with the definitive camera angle that showed Mike Tomlin to be a liar and a cheat. And then another one by PaVa, where he came close to saying that Mike Tomlin has destroyed all that is Steelers Holy, therefore also calling Mike Tomlin a liar and a cheat.
This whole debacle reminds me of the Ben is getting traded rumor from a few weeks back, a total non-story pumped up by the media so they have something interesting to talk about even if they had to make the story up themselves. You don't think FootGate was a made up story? It's only a story if Tomlin is a liar and a cheat. He's not, so his mistake was blown completely out of proportion to give the talking heads something to chatter about.
In my opinion a lot of people owe Coach Tomlin an apology, not that he is likely to receive one from any who have maliciously slandered his character, but that's okay, according to Coach, the people who know him never questioned his integrity.
Those who don't know him, he doesn't care so much about, obviously.
