A second-year pro out of Alabama, Wilson has yet to play a snap in the regular season with Atlanta or Jacksonville, but the Steelers think enough of him to bring him into the fold this offseason.
A team has to have someone to throw the ball during training camp, and they won't want to waste the arms of the starter and the back-up.
But who, exactly, is the Steelers back-up? It's an interesting question sometimes overlooked. Neither Charlie Batch nor Byron Leftwich are under contract for the 2013 season. While Parker cannot legitimately be considered an option for the back-up spot, he's the only quarterback currently on the roster not named Roethlisberger.
Will a back-up come via the draft, or will the Steelers look to ink Leftwich and Batch to deals before the season starts? It's a matter of some conjecture, but having a reliable back-up option is a necessity, considering the amount of damage Roethlisberger has taken over the past few years, and the increase in playing time seen by back-ups.
