Cleveland Browns select Barkevious Mingo

Chris Graythen

An interesting draft lands on the AFC North. The pass rushing prospect from LSU could give the Browns a powerful weapon...if he can develop.

If nothing else, the Browns clearly are trying to find a pass rush.

With their selection of LSU OLB Barkevious Mingo in the first round of the 2013 NFL Draft, they add free agent signing Paul Kruger, former Steelers defensive backs coach, and current Browns defensive coordinator Ray Horton, will have some weapons to work with in his first season in Cleveland.

The Browns fell off a bit defensively this past season, but they still have talent up front.

Mingo may not be able to play right away; he has loads of potential but it will be interesting to see how he holds up against the run.

However, more teams in the NFL are inserting pass rushers regardless of their run defensive ability. Bruce Irvin in Seattle last season and Aldon Smith in San Francisco two years ago are two players who were all but allergic to stopping the run but racked up sacks as situational players. Perhaps that's what Cleveland has in mind for the first year or two.
