Steelers took Eddie Lacy off their draft board

Dave Martin

A report in the Post-Gazette Sunday suggests the Steelers were scared off by an injury Alabama RB Eddie Lacy had, and took him off their draft board.

The Steelers chose Michigan State RB Le'Veon bell with the 48th pick in the draft, despite many suggesting Alabama RB Eddie Lacy was a better choice.

While the Steelers never had any real reported interest in Lacy, many suggested he would be their choice, should Lacy have fallen into the second round.

As it turns out, according to the Post-Gazette (via NFL.com), even if he was there in the third round, or the fourth, the Steelers wouldn't have taken him.

They took the Alabama star off their draft board due to a toe injury he suffered last year, and had surgically fused together afterward.

The Packers took Lacy with the 61st overall pick, the fourth running back to be selected behind Giovani Bernard (Cincinnati) Bell, and Montee Ball (Broncos).

Whether the injury will have any impact in Lacy's career remains to be seen, but judging by the initial reaction to the selection of Bell, this will be remembered for some time.
