Hey guys I wanted to share with you my latest 7 round Mock draft that can be found Here . Here are my picks and reasoning for the Steelers selections:
1st Round: WR Tavon Austin, WVU
-Could have gone a number of different ways here, but I love what Austin brings to the team. Wallace is gone and I think it is unlikely that Sanders is retained beyond this year. That leaves a big hole both next season and going forward for the Steelers. Austin also offers just pure playmaking ability and he can replace much of the returning and backfield work that was expected from Rainey.
2nd Round: DE Margus Hunt, SMU
-Ziggy Hood has been a bust so far, and while I like Cameron Heyward, I think the Steelers need to add another piece to this unit. Hunt is one of my favorite players in this draft and I think his upside is huge. I could see him rotating in as a rookie to help the pass rush and develop into a full time starter next year.
3rd Round: OLB Trevardo Williams, UConn
-Williams is a really nice pass rusher and I think he offers good value at this pick. He may not be able to start as a rookie, but he'll help bring some pressure, and has a nice chance to become a starter in the future.
4th Round: RB Andre Ellington, Clemson
-I like Jonathan Dwyer, but the Steelers need some additional support back there. Ellington's speed offers a nice complement to Dwyer's power.
5th Round: WR Chris Harper, K-State
-This may seem like overkill to some, but I like his value for this pick and his potential. He offers nice size, and could be an interesting long term option. Remember when the Steelers got rid of Holmes they drafted a pair of receivers that next year.
6th Round: RB Ray Graham, Pitt
-This is a value pick at this point. I think Graham is criminally underrated. I watched him all week of practice at the East West Shrine Game and I saw a lot of 2011 Ray Graham flashes. I think with Ellington, and Graham the Steelers will have a much better running game going forward. Instead of spending say their top pick on Lacy or a 2nd rounder on a back, I like the Steelers to double in the draft.
6th Round: S Rontez Miles, Cal (Pa)
-Doesn't hurt that he's a local guy with a Steeler tattoo, but really it is more than that for Miles. He's an intriguing late round safety, and the Steelers need depth here after losing both of their back-ups and the injury concerns to the starters.
7th Round: CB Adrian Bushnell, Louisville
-Nice depth pick-up here. Losing Lewis weakened this unit, and I like the upside that Bushnell brings.
Tell me what you think!
