Steelers Draft Visits: Will Davis shares similar story as Cortez Allen

Douglas C. Pizac-US PRESSWIRE

Will Davis has bounced around between multiple college teams, and the inexperienced but physically gifted cornerback fits the mold of recent Steelers cornerback draft picks.

The Steelers added three more players to their pre-draft visits list, bringing the total to 15 of 30 non-local players who have met with the Steelers at their South Side facility.

The NFL Draft is April 25-27 in New York City.

Syracuse safety Shamarko Thomas, Utah State cornerback Will Davis and San Diego State offensive guard Nik Embernate are the recent additions to the list. Probably the most notable from this group is Thomas, who's expected to be a mid-round pick.

Davis, however, is a very intriguing prospect. Much like current Steelers cornerback Cortez Allen, Davis didn't play football until late in high school, and his path to the NFL Draft isn't typical. He played one year of high school football, earning a scholarship to Division II Western Washington. The school cut its football program after that year, leading him to De Anza College, a juco outside San Francisco. He eventually caught on at Utah State, and started his senior year. He was named All-WAC this past season.

At 6-foot-0, 186 pounds, he has prototypical size and with recorded 40-times from 4.43 to 4.51, shows he has the long speed required of the position. He didn't have a great Senior Bowl, which sent his stock from around the second round to more of the 4-5 round range. He's raw, which seems to be something the Steelers will overlook for mid-round cornerback picks, and if he can get a little bigger, and show he can be the physical corner the Steelers need, he could be a great addition.
