Leave it to Head Coach Mike Tomlin to stir up a bit of controversy.
According to a report filed by Ray Fittipaldo of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, Tomlin has his own opinions on Spence's future.
"All the rehab is going to according to plan. No news there. I did hear the opinion regarding Spence. My opinion differs. I think he’ll have a full recovery. But now you have two opinions, neither of which are expert medical opinions, so do with it what you wish."
Tomlin and Butler may not be medical experts, but they are the people responsible for building a Steel Curtain worthy defense - with or without Spence. The team, even at its most optimistic, is expecting Spence to need another year of rehabilitation; however, whether he will play again is an enormous variable in the roster building equation. One would think the coaching staff would gather a collective opinion on their own roster, much like they do during draft day.
Apparently for now, the current opinion is a collective "I don't know".
