Can someone please explain why this isn't the first spot teams look to for position flexibility and extra roster spots? Is it really so different from a shotgun snap that Pouncey can reliably do the one but not the other? Is it really so hard that NONE of the backup linemen can learn this trick and get themselves a roster spot that way too? Think of Legursky: a fine backup Center who just wasn't big enough to handle duties as a backup Guard too. That lack of position flexibility cost him his job. But if he could reliably hike the ball to a punter, he'd still be there?
This makes no sense to me unless the task is so unique (like punting itself) that otherwise great athletes can't master the trick. But I don't see why or how that should be! If anyone can explain this, please do. I can't be the only one who wants to know.
