Calling all yinz BTSCers – The Pirates are winning!

I know many of you used to be Pirate fans in your former lives. You have fond memories of a team, a family, of champions. You embraced the Black and Gold stripes and loved to hear, “…and there was no doubt about it!” You, like many, have suffered a great loss and are mired in deep grief. You have adapted to the socially acceptable year-round football to fill the void left in your hearts over the past 20 years. You have grown to think the Steelers are enough; the Steelers are all you need. You even think your deep love for the Steelers does not allow room for a second team. Certainly not a losing team! I know how you feel. I was you…

I know your bodies have adjusted to having such a long offseason, resting your voices, abstaining from dollar dogs and Buc nights, plotting your pilgrimage to Latrobe, mocking your drafts, speculating the 53man roster, contemplating your newest jersey acquisition, and occasionally glancing at picture from the City of Champion Days when Point Park had a fountain.

You don’t live in Pittsburgh and can’t bear the embarrassment of being a Bucs fan. Or you do live in the ‘Burgh but tolerate those who wear other caps. You feel being a Pirate fan somehow reduces your leverage in the fall and somehow detracts from the boast of 6 and quest for 7. You may have even adopted the Phillies or Red Sox or Yankees as your baseball team, sad to say. You have rationalized that we don’t have an NBA or MLB team so this kind of treason and infidelity is acceptable.

Most of you have easily substituted the Boys of Winter (who seem to play well into the spring) for the sad offspring of our beloved Dock Ellis, Roberto Clemente, Willie Stargell, and dare I say – Barry Bonds. A substitution made easy by the rise of our sometimes powder blue Penguins. A substitution of necessity while the Pirates have become the Steelers of the 50’s and 60’s.

Brother and Sisters of Steeler Nation… A new day is upon us! The Pittsburgh Pirates of 2013 are f’real. They are worth every penny and our attention. Red up the room… It is safe to come out and be reconciled. This will not detract from your Steeler love n’at. On the contrary it will only increase your fan s’perience. Imagine the pride of beating the Bears, Bungals, Reds and Cubs in September. We could own Chicago and Cincinnati! MmmHa! Imagine beating the Ravens then the Orioles (again) in October. Double Yoy! Do not miss this opportunity to relive the magic of your youth, to strap your kids in for a transformative experience, to witness, to watch, to triumph once again. We are on the precipice of…
