so chip kelly was "sanctioned" by the NCAA yesterday in a banner day for czar goodell.
the punishment was for recruitment violations at university of oregon. in january, chip kelly decided to stay at oregon and forgo a position in the NFL. a scant week later, kelly accepts the iggles head coach position. yesterday, kelly was "punished" by the ncaa, but denied that pending punishment for the recruiting violations were the reasons he suddenly decided to go running off to the NFL.
those are some of the facts of the case. why i want to discuss this in a stillers forum is because i think this portends more hypocrisy of herr czar goodell.
terelle pryor was going to be suspended from ohio state football. he heads to the nfl (mein goodell allows him to enter the supplemental draft), then the goodell the rotten suspends pryor to uphold the ncaa suspension.
pete carroll decimates the USC program, but bolts to the NFL and narry a penalty for him.
pryor's coach, mr. sweater-vest, takes a consulting position with the colts. no suspension (if you recall, the colts officially said he had a job, but he wouldn't start for 6 weeks. that's not the same thing as serving a suspension).
chip kelly i'm sure will skate free and clear because his penalty is that kelly is not allowed to coach in the NCAA for 18mos. this after signing a five year deal.
but kelly and carroll need to get their punishments too. it's a joke - players are dropped at a suspicion, but coaches can be rewarded for their deeds.
tl;dr. goodell is a jackarse, a hypocrite, and generally an attention whore who exercises less control than a kardashian.
