Just Hoping for No New "Questions"

For the OTA's, I said I did not think people should look for any answers. For training camp answers are not the issue to me. I just do not want any new questions to come up. Look I know it has been pretty rough week and a half for the team injury wise, but if you step back and look at things the injuries occurred in areas of question.

When you look at the three main ones one contention I see a lot of smoke but not much fire.

  1. G Nik Embernate - The Offensive line is being rebuilt. Depth was a question before he was hurt and it is still a question. Yes finding the new Doug Legursky would be great I just hope the new "Legursky" is not in the starting line-up as often.
  2. CB Cortez Allen - It is still the spot opposite Ike. There were questions and there still are.
  3. TE/WR Plaxico Spaeth - Yup I see it as one issue. Yes depth is a nice thing, but it is clear that things had to change to get more out of the WR's and TE's. Miller had a career year, but it would have been nice if more of that production came in the fourth quarter. You cannot have a weapon like that be taken away so easily in crunch time. The Explosive plays and yard per catch from the WR's fell of a cliff from 2011. The run blocking problems of the OL has been pointed out, but I do wonder if changes in the passing game had an effect on the run block responsibilities for the TE's and WR's.

At this point the team is still where it was before the injuries as far as I am concerned. Depth at TE could be a more of a concern but the role of the TE in a Haley offense is not truly clear in my opinion. Yes, there is a role for Heath Miller's talent in the offense, but when you look at the roster moves during the past two offseasons TE does not seem to be a priority for a Todd Haley offense. Pass catching or run blocking TE's were not seen as a need. A 7th Round Pick does not say priority to me. Spaeth was more depth than need. I view him a potential great tool to play with Miller not fill in for Miller.

This evening my hope is no new Question come up. Most of the answers to questions for the team (i.e. back-up QB, OL play and Turnovers O/D) will not be know until the season starts or as usual until the season ends. Tonight I just hope the team get no new nicks, plays in all phases of the game are called and executed smoothly and finally I will look at how the back-up QB's handle the offense and themselves.

GO STEELERS!!!
