Al Woods earns Steelers highest grade in Pro Football Focus evaluation

Charles LeClaire-USA TODAY Sport

The Steelers Digest Player of the Game, Woods, scored big according to the play evaluation web site.

Steelers defensive lineman Al Woods earned a 4.0 grade from Pro Football Focus, a web site that evaluates each player in each game throughout the course of the season.

The site is doing preseason games for the first time this season, creating an interesting point of reference for fans who may not have had the chance to see the game.

PFF give a varying point amount on a player's performance in each play of a game. The scores can range from -2.0 (a complete disaster) to 2.0 (a resounding whipping of his opponent). The most common grade is 0, with 0.1 being the second-most common, according to the site.

Racking up a 4.0 in that kind of grading system indicates Woods stood out to the evaluator quite a bit, and it's hard to argue.

They gave left tackle Mike Adams a 1.2, the highest grade for any Steelers' offensive player. Center Maurkice Pouncey earned a -3.0 on just 20 snaps, which is on par with the site's longstanding devaluation of Pouncey and his abilities.

Kelvin Beachum earned a 1.2 as a back-up right tackle, while starter Marcus Gilbert earned a -2.0 (another grade I'm not sure I agreed with upon a second viewing).

Back-up NT Alameda Ta'amu earned a 1.6 for his efforts, and running back LaRod Stephens-Howling got a 1.2 for his seven-carry, 40 yard performance.
