Steelers injury update: Thursday practice brutal for running backs

Charles LeClaire-USA TODAY Sport

Several Steelers went down in Thursday's training camp practice. Le'Veon Bell and Isaac Redman left the team thin at running back and Jarvis Jones tweaked his groin.

Update: Steel City Insider's Jim Wexell spoke with a few Steelers players who don't believe Bell's injury is significant.

The Pittsburgh Steelers suffered through a brutal afternoon training camp practice on Thursday, losing several players to a myriad of injuries.

Le'Veon Bell suffered a knee injury on an outside stretch run which had gained 15 yards as Bell prepared to share first team duties with Isaac Redman when the Steelers play the Washington Redskins Monday night.  The team's medical staff wrapped his knee with ice, although the wrapping was removed by the end of practice; however, a noticeable limp was left behind.

According to Pittsburgh Tribune-Review's Alan Robinson, Bell's run came during a non-contact drill but was driven to the ground by several defenders, seeming unprepared for the contact.  Head coach Mike Tomlin confirmed following practice it was not a 'live' drill.  Bell is currently being evaluated, with most rumors pointing at a possible MCL sprain.

Redman, who left practice after the first play from scrimmage with a pinched nerve, spent the remainder of practice on the sidelines.  Originally it appeared as if Redman suffered a vicious blow from a Steelers defender, but instead suffered the injury running into the back of an offensive lineman.  He will be monitored through the rest of the week before setting his status for Monday night's game against the Redskins.

Jarvis Jones tweaked his groin, but it is expected to be minor and should not limit his participation in Monday night's game.  Offensive guard Ramon Foster was witnessed limping a bit in practice, but he was able to continue.  No mention to his issue leaving it in the 'minor' category.

BTSC will bring you more injury updates as further details emerge.
