Ryan Clark: "Wheaton is better than Wallace at everything except speed"

On Saturday, Ryan Clark interviewed with 93.7 The Fan in Pittsburgh and made some controversial comments comparing 2013 Rookie 3rd Round Pick WR Markus Wheaton to ex-Steeler WR Mike Wallace (now with the Miami Dolphins).

"Markus Wheaton, and you take this how you want, is better than Michael Wallace at everything but one thing: speed. That’s it. He does everything else better. That’s not a knock on Mike. And it’s not saying Markus can be more productive than Mike, because the thing Mike did well, he did better than anyone else in the NFL. And that was run. But I think as far as route-running, (Wheaton’s) more polished. I think he has better hands. They both are extremely tough guys to be slightly built."

When I saw Wheaton against the Giants, he definitely looked more like an NFL WR than a speedster like Wallace was. He was determined to get those 1st Down's and made a clutch catch on 4th Down. He is very tough and doesn't mind putting his body on the line in order to make the tough catch. He almost reminds me of a faster Hines Ward. Sure he is 5'11", but the Steelers haven't had a good tall WR since before Plax left for NY. He can definitely make a name for himself his rookie season if he takes advantage of his opportunities.
