Winners and Losers from Steelers loss to Chiefs in Preseason Week 3

Justin K. Aller

Ups and downs in the Steelers' third consecutive preseason loss. Special teams is becoming a recurring negative theme, just as Jarvis Jones and Markus Wheaton are becoming positive ones.

Winners

Jarvis Jones - What else does any fan need to see at this point in his career to justify his selection?

Cortez Allen - As Nuke LaLoosh would say, he announced his presence (or return) with authority. In his first game action in 2012, Allen led all Steelers with six tackles and broke up a pass.

Alan Baxter - Notching two sacks in his first game without competing with fringe-roster OLB Adrian Robinson (traded for running back Felix Jones earlier this week), he showed up when people would be watching him the most intensely.

Markus Wheaton - Three more catches and another 50-plus yard game (54), he scored his first touchdown this preseason, a 34-yarder from Bruce Gradkowski.

Ben Roethlisberger - A nice throw to Antonio Brown on the second play of the game and a Ben-like scramble around the field led to a 15-yard touchdown pass to Jonathan Dwyer highlighted Roethlisberger's outstanding performance.

Losers

Josh Victorian - Another week with below-suspect special teams play. While it's unfair to pin it on one guy, Victorian's missed tackle on a 109-yard kick return touchdown by Knile Davis kept this game competitive - and the Chiefs eventually took it.

Chris Carter - In what should have been a ramped up performance, Carter was again fairly pedestrian. It's barely even a question anymore, Jarvis Jones is the team's top back-up at outside linebacker.
