Thoughts on O-line

\ I will start this by saying that I have never played a snap as an o-lineman so what do I know.

I know Decastro is taking the bulk of the blame for the Pouncey injury. However, it looked on the play like DeCastro held his block too long (in a zone scheme) and should have already passed his man off. I have a feeling that with more work in the system this never would have happend.

That being said why do so few linemen in the NFL wear kneee braces? It is not like these guys need the straight line speed of a WR or high end RB, and they know the will get caught up in a pile nearly every game. Decastro was not wearing braces when he got hurt either. I don't know if either injury would have been prevented but they possibly could have been.

I have a friend that played o-line in college. He said that after a serious injury it does play mind games with everyone on the line, especially if you know it was a friendly fire injury. I am sure DeCastro's mind was not right after Pouncey was hurt and who knows about the rest of the line. I think they will play better this week and they need too against a tougher defense.

That being said we are where we are. I am ok with Beachum as the center over Velasco at this point but in a few weeks who knows. Tomlin needs to play whoever is the best at reading the def, making the calls, and executing the offense. I have a feeling that even if not starting Velasco can help Beachum with calls and the zone scheme and he gives us depth. Although this was a bad week it was better in many respects that the week 1 against Baltimore a few years ago.
