Injuries -- time to increase game day roster size

I was reading Ivan's latest article and saw that season ending injuries are up 29% under the new CBA. Such injuries, as we all know, have a drastic effect on a team's fortunes, not only for the season, but for the game in which they occur.

Why are you permitted to only dress 45 players for the game? You are paying 53 (at least). Why must you make critical decisions on which players to dress? As we all know, such decisions can be potentially fatal when multiple injuries are suffered by a team, such as last Sunday's game. Isn't it enough of a blow that a team loses three players for the year and five for the game due to injury.

Injuries are a part of the game, but even more so, because of this rule. Unless there is some redeeming purpose I'm missing, it seems stupid to pay 53 when you can only play 45, especially when 45 is not enough all too often. Why not just dress all 45 and take some of the injury misfortune out of the game? Steeler fans know all too well the price of injuries are high enough without this nonsensical rule.

What do you think?
