In light of the painful play over the past two weeks let us look at what happened this offseason. Jonathan Dwyer was cut. It did not seem significant when it happened but now he is back right where he needs to be. This bothers me though, although he did not necessarily play well last season he still averaged 4 yards a carry which was more than Isaac Redman did a year ago. Football is a game of inches and comparing the two backs Dwyer was more productive per carry by about 1 yard. Now don't get me wrong that does not warrant a long term contract but, it does warrant an opportunity to start for the Steelers due to the lack of depth at the running back position. Dwyer rushed for around 600 yards last year after taking over for mendenhall When He got hurt. He was resigned after La Rod Stephens Howling was injured but, Redman will still be getting the bulk of the carries. Now Redman is a solid short yardage back but I believe Dwyer will one day be an every down back somewhere, I just hope it is here in Pittsburgh.
