Hope We See Acorn Planted Tonight

I really think the Steelers will win tonight. I honestly believe they will be able to do it. Hey even a blind squirrel can find a nut every now and then. Reports over the last week show that they are not blind to the situation that they are in, which is a good thing. They also seem more focused than squirrelly, which is a great thing. On the flip side some fans seem to becoming an unfocused clutch of squirrelly nuts over the offense. LOL Maybe look back will give some clarity and some hope.

Here is a listing of the OC's since the start of the Cower era:

When Haley arrived the team also said good bye to a system that had been pretty successful for over a decade. I would argue that Whisenhunt and Arians basically tweaked the offense that Mularkey installed. Becuse they were on staff, they also had a clearer picture of the personnel. Considering what is going on now, reading these Cowher quotes after Gilbride's dismissal make me laugh:

"Certainly there were a number of factors for this decision," Cowher said. "I wasn't comfortable with what we were doing in the passing game. We've given it two years to see some progress and I wasn't comfortable with where that was going."

That sounds normal but here is the kicker:

"We ran the ball before Kevin got here. We ran it when Kevin was here and we'll run it after Kevin leaves, but we need to develop a passing game."

Yes there was the "Tommy Gun" but for the most part the new system brought stability to the offense side of the ball. I am not a fan of the Haley offense. Me liking the offense is not important, but the team has to figure out a way to win with it. To be fair I have not seen enough of the offense to get a good handle on it. I should not be saying that after a season and two games in this system. I do think I am on firm ground saying that the team needs to get some stability system wise on the offensive side on the ball.

The offense still seems to be thinking too much. They need to play themselves out of this. My hope is that when the team comes out of the break the offense is making plays instead of thinking about them.
