Not only Steelers fans, but the whole sports world is shocked by the 0-3 start. To everyone who asks me what the heck is going on, I just shrug and say we'll turn it around. I'm stuck in Ravens' Territory, so I constantly get bombarded with smack talk about how much we suck and how we're going to lose to the Browns, let alone the Ravens.
I'm not so sure that all of the worry and smack talk is justified. Yes, our team lost, and yes our Offense looked like crap the first 2 games, but we were still in those games and didn't get blown out. A handful of plays made the difference each week so far, and the turnovers have cost us dearly.
I just look to the future and see that Heath will begin rounding into his usual form over the next few weeks. The offensive line will begin to gel and will improve with Heath's added blocking (80 yards against a tough Bears D is more than our first 2 games combined). Bell is coming back and no one knows how good, or bad, he'll be. He could easily come in and improve our running game, because it'd be hard to make it any worse. Also, almost more importantly than all the above, the turnovers will come in time. We have had awful luck in generating turnovers. Numerous fumbles bounce right back into the opponents hands, possible INTs don't happen because our secondary is in perfect position to hit the WR right as the ball arrives, and sack fumbles don't happen because we're tenths of a second too late. These game changing plays will begin to come and as long as we can reduce our turnovers, these upcoming games could easily be won.
One of the most important reason's I'm not all that worried yet, we've faced some really good teams. The Titans are looking like a playoff contender with a really good Defense. Cincy and the Bears are leading their respective divisions and have been touted as obvious playoff teams. Losing to teams of this caliber is not ridiculous, even if we ourselves are a good team. Granted, we've only played like a good team for 2 quarters of the Bears game when we outscored them 20 - 3, but we're capable of being great this year.
I'm not ready to give up on our guys and continue to be optimistic about this year. It might be crazy and wind up being blind optimism, but I don't count the Steelers out. Especially when everyone else has.
Also, I think that even if we lose to Minn this week, we're going to come roaring out of the bye week and go on a tear. As Velasco, Heath, and Bell get more comfortable our team is just going to get better and better.
