Fantasy Hockey 2013-2014 Season

Hey Everyone,

To change away from football gears for a moment I am commissioner of a custom Yahoo fantasy hockey league for the third year now and am looking for new managers to join in the fun.

The Custom League Name: #66 Problems But A Cup Ain't 1

The league will have a max of 12 teams in two divisions of 6 (Metrosexual Division and Hulkamania Division) and is set in a head to head format. This means you play one team for an entire week (Mon-Sun) at the end of the week the team that accumulates the most overall points wins that week.

The roster breakdown is as follows: C, C, LW, LW, RW, RW, D, D, Util, Util, G, BN, BN, BN, BN, BN, BN, IR, IR

The points as they apply to stats are:

Forwards/Defensemen Stat Category Value
Goals (G) 2
Assists (A) 1
Plus/Minus (+/-) 1
Penalty Minutes (PIM) .25
Powerplay Goals (PPG) 3
Powerplay Assists (PPA) 2
Shorthanded Goals (SHG) 3
Shorthanded Assists (SHA) 2
Game-Winning Goals (GWG) 3
Shots on Goal (SOG) .5
Faceoffs Won (FW) .25
Faceoffs Lost (FL) -.25
Hits (HIT) .25
Blocks (BLK) .25
Goaltenders Stat Category Value
Wins (W) 3
Losses (L) -3
Goals Against (GA) -2
Saves (SV) .5
Shutouts (SHO) 5

Some things to note:

Goalies: unlike a lot of leagues that start two goalies I only start one. The reason being that if you look at the stat categories your goalie should be your highest and most consistent point earner in the league. On the flip side, if your goalie gives up 3 in the 1st period and gets pulled you could end up with negative points. I feel like this is more realistic as a goalie can make or break a game for a team at any given moment. There is also no minimum goalie appearances per week because you should want to start a goalie as much as possible.

Faceoffs: it may seem like a small thing but good face off pivots matter. You gain or loose .25 depending on if you win or loose the face off. This can handicap a guy like Malkin for example because even though he puts up monster numbers his losses in the face off circle can cut into his overall point production in this league. Again, I feel this reflects an important part of the real game because face off win/losses can be critical to a team winning or loosing a game.

Aside from that the rest of the scoring is pretty self explanatory.

The draft is taking place Sunday 9/22/13 at 5:00pm EST (2:00pm PST). Don't worry Steelers fans they play Sunday night football against Chicago that night so will not interfere. It is a live online draft through Yahoo.

If you wish to join the league please send an email to kurtboyd9@yahoo.com with your email address and I will send you the invite. You do need to have a Yahoo email in order to register.

Please, only serious managers that will do their best to attend the live draft as well as remain active for the ENTIRE season.

If anyone needs any additional incentive, my two time returning champion of the league is an Islanders fan. He won the championship last year by .25 points.

Thanks everyone!
