Yea the first kickoff is almost here. For most the best thing about that is the season is starting, but it also means, thankfully, the preseason is in the rearview mirror. Need to move forward. Cannot dwell on what did nor did not happen in the preseason. Team needs to focus on the game that will count now. The team needs to take what it needed from the preseason to move forward and leave behind tings that they feel will hold them back. That being said there are some mindsets that I feel the team should leave behind with the preseason.
I think most will disagree with the things I would like left with the preseason, but they are quips and mindsets that I hope are gone with the preseason. Here they are:
- The Offensive Changes Were Done to Help Ben - Ben was acquitting himself pretty well before 2012. Off the field Ben needed a major overhaul. On field Ben was seen by many has one of the best in the game. Tony Romo has better stats than Ben, but I still would take Ben over Romo. You take the good with the bad. I say let Ben be Ben.
- Have to Get Back to Ground and Pound - During the height of ground and pound during the 70's, Bradshaw was know as the "Blonde Bomber". The offensive was not Dr. Dink and the Dunkateers. Maybe to make it clear that Bradshaw was a lethal component to the Steelers of the 70's, but downplay the vertical game, I should refer to Bradshaw as Monsieur Scaramanga. Looking at footage and stats you cannot dismiss the importance of a solid running game in Steeler History. That being said the footage, stats and three Superbowl MVP's during that dynasty run showed the importance of the vertical game to those teams too. To me last year the team did not really abandon the run game. They just did it very badly. From what I saw they basically kicked the vertical game to the curb. I do not see that as Steeler Ball.
- "Blank" Will Replace Mike Wallace - Here it is to me in a nutshell. If Mike Wallace could not be Mike Wallace in this offense, why should the team be so pressed to get a replacement for him? They did not really stretch the field with Wallace on the team. How does a Wallace clone help them?
It is wishful thinking that these the trepidations of the preseason and my pet peeves will go away. Just have to move keep moving forward. My dream is that while they are in London they will swing by MI6 to pick up a 00 to put in front of Ben's 7 if they need to do so and work that bye for all it is worth. Go Steelers!!!
