SB Nation's latest immediately-preceeding-free-agency mock draft has the Steelers taking cornerback Justin Gilbert, which won't happen. Not sure why they're bothering. It won't happen.
Pittsburgh needs to get younger in the secondary. That includes the cornerback position. Not only would Justin Gilbert fill a need for the Steelers in that area, but he starts to present a lot of value in the middle of the first round given his developmental upside. At the very least, he will contribute on special teams from day one.
Signing a developmental corner with the measurements and film Gilbert has sounds perfectly fine. Their comments seem to be reflecting a rising trend among armchair GMs; Gilbert is no longer a multi-year starter at a major school in a major conference. He's turned into a project.
Fair enough. It's not going to happen anyway. If he's a project at 15 he's a project at 10.
Not gonna happen. Right?
