Patriots reportedly in talks with ex-Seahawks CB Brandon Browner

Matthew Emmons-USA TODAY Sports

The addition of CB Darrelle Revis wasn't enough for New England.

The AFC appears to be spending the majority of the dollars given out in the early stages of this year's free agency bonanza. The New England Patriots aren't one of the biggest spenders, but after landing the best player available on the market, cornerback Darrelle Revis, they're reportedly digging into former Seahawks CB Brandon Browner as well.

2014 NFL Free Agency

Browner was not re-signed by the Seahawks amid a looming suspension, and, like Revis, can probably be had on a short-term contract. There's no doubt his suspension will drive down his price tag, and for a team that appears to be looking for short-term options to get over the hump (i.e. Denver) in the AFC, he could be seen as a bargain.

Browner is a Pro Bowl level cornerback with awesome size for his position. His abilities wouldn't be utilized fully within the Steelers' defense, making him unappealing in terms of a free agent signee, but his strength in press coverage will be exploited by a team looking to employ a more physical brand of defensive football. The combination of Browner and Revis in New England would be formidable.
